After downsizing, I now have 5: DA* 55, DA* 50-135, Tamron 28-200 (which will eventually be replaced), Zeiss Jenna 50 f/3.5, and Super Tak 50 f/1.4.
There's also one or two K1000 kits with standard M 50 f/2 around here somewhere, as well as ME Super with A 70-210 f/4.

I have no logical reason to buy the 55 1.4 rockstar, but it just keeps shouting "buy me! buy me I am so cool!!"

But, I can imagine exchanging one, two or three lenses depending on what becomes available over the next couple of years. As most of you know my DA* 16-50, which has not failed me yet, remains suspect because of the SDM. Ditto the 50-135. And both are really heavy. If Pentax comes out with lighter, more reliable alternatives to both, I'd consider them. Also, while I have no complaints about my DA 55-300, if a 135-400 came out to match the 18-135, I'd consider it too.
Biro, you are missing the point, this is nothing to do with need...but everything to do with the thrill of the chase, the feel of superbly machined metal at your fingertips, the sensual feedback when you turn a well damped focus ring....this is camera porn, lust, not need.

Have you checked the toilet tank? That's a classical place to hide lenses when you got LBA.

Who is the 3rd <maniac>, please raise your hand
Its not me. I'm in the real minority here with ~120 lenses. Don't want to be with the main stream majority with 150+ lenses

no room that's where i keep the Heroin, it's the only thing that slows down LBA by making me complacent, whenever i get to anxious about my lens collection i visit the toilet tank.....sssshhhh don't tell my wife, 1 expensive habit is bad enough

How many lenses

120 at the last count. Recent price increases have all but cured my LBA.

All cheap and good, largely consisting manual focus Taks, Pentax K's and M's, Adaptalls, Vivitars, various communist and other M42's.

Only 6 Autofocus among them, including 2 Mk 1 18-55 kit lenes that came with the DL2 and K100.

As opposed to the communist K-mount lenses currently Assembled in Vietnam?

I've got 14 lens that I use on my digital body.
I also have a few manual focus lenses that stay glued to my film cameras (old inexpensive 50mm f1.7 lenses and the like).

For me, the attraction of the Pentax/K-Mount system was the selection of high quality small primes. A prime lens collection is always going to need more lenses to cover the same focal lengths.

A typical Canon user would buy a 24-70, 70-200, and 50 and call it a day. A Pentax user has 4 decades worth of K-mount glass to play with, even more if M42 and Adaptall etc is included. There's the FA limited trio, then the DA limiteds, then a few interesting * lenses, then vintage Sears/Vivitar/Rikenon/Kiron/Komine/Sigma lenses - there's no end to the LBA.

That is how I rationalise the large number of lenses in my collection. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to ask, or even if it has been featured in another thread, but as there are a few of us LBA sufferers here that have collected several (presumably) manual focus lenses I wanted to make an obsevation on White Balance settings depending on the manufacturer of the lens being used.

On cloudy days I set the balance to cloudy and all of my pictures have extremes of a brown tinge - some very, some not so much, depending on the lens used.

Auto White Balance is invariably blue tinged; ditto Sunny on sunny days. Shade works sometimes

Today, in London, it was very warm and sunny. I set the camera to Daylight White Flourescent Light using a Pentax M 100 2.8 (lovely lens). The white came out white and all other colours were as should be. This also seems to be the same for some other Pentax SMC lenses too. Tamrons and Vivitars, Russian and East German lenses sometimes get it right on this setting, others not.

Is it the coatings, the sensor, or pot luck? Or me?

I use an isd DL2 and a K100D.

For Post Processing I use Coral PSP X2. It has a lovely feature where you can point at an area that should be white, click on it, and all becomes right again, but I would rather get it right first time.

Interesting shape of the bell curve, skewed to the left, as expected. I do have duplicate lenses, in case one get lost or stolen. However, I may have to think in selling some. I have no room to keep them.

It's all your fault, of course. You let the pot-luck happen to you. But I've noticed in over a decade of shooting digital that AWB systems suck leave a bit to be desired. I need to PP to tweak WB | color temp, or remove color cast, in almost all images from all my digicams with any lens from anywhere. Or I convert to B&W. I'm still waiting for a magic eye.
