Any insight on Tamron Adaptall 85-210

Hey fellows!

I found an Adaptall 85-210 auctioned here: TAMRON ADAPTALL 85-210 F4,5, MACRO 1:1,4 cu adaptor Pentax inclus IMPECABIL!! - Okazii (57181906)The price is around 75$ (56 Eur) and it also has a pentax adapter, which makes me think it will fit a Pentax K-r. The guy who sells it says it's in ETN state and has a magnification ratio of 1:1.4 (not 1:4, but 1:1.4) which would be great for close up pictures.
I haven't found anything about this lens, does anyone have it? Is it worth the price? What's the minimum focusing distance?

It could be this one: Google Translate For the money you can probably do better, you should be able to pick up a 103A: Tamron Adaptall-2 80-210mm F/3.8-4 Model 103A or for a little more 19AH: Tamron SP Adaptall-2 70-210mm F/3.5 Model 19AH The magnification ratio you were quoted is wrong, it's probably 1:4 as most zoom lenses designated as macro zoom were. The highest rated magnification for a zoom lens belonged to Tamron SP 23A: Tamron SP Adaptall-2 60-300mm F/3.8-5.4 Model 23A which had a magnification ratio of 1:1.55. All three lenses I've listed are better rated, newer Adaptall-2 or Adaptall-2 SP lenses and they can be obtained for about the same money or for slightly more than the amount listed in the auction.

Thanks for the reply, it is really helpful as I had no knowledge regarding Adaptall lenses!
I believe the highest magnification ratio for zoom lenses you mentioned above applies only for Adaptall lenses - am i right? I'm asking because I also a lens named Pentax Tokina ATX 50-250mm with a magnification ratio of 1:1.4 (see the second picture from this link: Macro 1:1.4 (nu 1:4!) Pentax Tokina ATX 50-250mm/4-5,6 - Okazii (60829770) - listed for 100 euro, which also seems a little too much).

You'll be much happier if you hold out for the 103A or 19AH as recommended by exCFD. And before you do even that, consider whether or not you'll be comfortable with manual focus and the quirkiness of the Adaptall lenses if you're not familiar with them.

Any of the modern 70-300mm, auto-focus macro zooms will perform as well within the 70-200mm range for about the same price and they may ultimately have more utility for you.

I'm not disparaging the Adaptalls, especially the SP's which are excellent optics (I've got too many of 'em myself), but they can be frustrating if you're not familiar with them. Sort'a like owing a 1960's British sports car .

Have you explored the Adaptall Club here?
