If borders are so bad, this lens will be disaster on full frame. Since FA43 was originally made for FF, I wonder what went wrong.

Thats a good point, at this point I am wondering if theres any point to keeping the full frame film lenses, if ever there's a full frame digital.

No, there's not. We should both sell our FA20's before it's too late!

I'd be interested in your FA31 if you are letting go of that

Yes, definitely, you will be the first to know, if only in thanks for the warning on the PF on the other two in the trio. And we can't really let go of Lance's FA 31 to an unknown person, can we?

True, and Jun Kirakawa has been quoted saying as such.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them do well on a full frame sensor in a realistic shooting situation.
I'll say it again - based on my experience with the lens, it will be the first lens I re-buy when I get my Pentax FF body.

I've seen it used both ways, in fact google & dpreview shows me "Jun Hirakawa", "Hirakawa Jun" and "Hirakawa, Jun" with a comma in the name, which in the west indicates the surname is before the comma. But It does look like camerapedia lists it as "Hirakawa Jun", so that's probably correct.

Blue and you wrote Kirakawa.

His name is Hirakawa Jun, family name first, given name last in the Japanese tradition.

What does sub 1000 MTF actually look like on a test chart? I know my 43mm wide open is sharper than my 18-135mm (at any focal length) wide open.

Some additional thought on lens sharpness: "Most Lenses are Better Than Most Photographers"

Well, the Photozone test isn't very usefull, because it doesn't include figures about the amount of fairy dust.

Sorry, just kidding. So now that the FA43ltd is officially a "bad" lens I'll be eagurly awaiting the pricedrop on the bay. (Because I know it renders very very VERY good.)

Photozone - next PZ lens test report: Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited -

my discussion with Klaus.

The last Klaus answer was
As mentioned I have no complete explanation at this stage.

The fact is Klaus tested FA43 at K-5 and his copy has very high center resolution and strange drop of resolution at the corners. He can't explain it.
Me too. My copy is better at K-5 than at K200D at all apertures.

This test and the previous one are irrelevant. The FA43/1.9 is a 15 year old lens design optimized for the FF Pentax film cameras of the late 1990’s.

How it or any Pentax lens released during the film area fare on a DSLR has no bearing on how Pentax designed or built the FA43/1.9. An original review from 1997 would be more accurate.

Phil.
Wrong. FA31 is better at K-5 than at K10D. Even 18-55 is better.
