I voted for the 60-250, that's one on the list that I'd love to have, but I'm sure I'll not be able to afford that anytime soon. The Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 may be within my grasp, and with an extension tube will make most likely make a very good tele zoom and macro solution for me all in one.

Apologies for those who wanted multiple choices (I may well post another poll with multiple choices later), but I really wanted to see what was the "priority" next lens choice. I also apologise for the absence of the DA 35 f1.??, my mistake.

Personally, I voted for the DA*60-250 as I find the range very useful, I use the Tamron 70-300 Di at the moment and it would be great to have better IQ in this region!

I already have my FA*300 and Tamron TC for the longer reaches, but I may well end up with the DA*300 as it will enable my TC + 300 combo to AF faster, plus the extra 1/2 stop is handy. However it's all down to performance, the FA* is a tough act to beat.

In reality, I expect the 55-300 and the 17-70 to be the bigger sellers. AFAIK the 17-70 will not be around until late this year . If it's is as good as expected (i.e. 16-45 standard with better reach and resoultion at the long end with less CA), then it will be #2 on my list.

Many thanks to those who have expressed their "desires" for the more "exotic" designs!

My Tamron 1.4x AF TC has the power contacts for SDM and all the other contacts, it's use is "transparent" to the body.

I tested a DA* 50-135 and a K10D with firmware rev 1.3, and the SDM AF motor worked correctly and at the same speed as without the TC. Obviously the SR correction isn't correct, but it's better than without when hand holding. Also you get no exif notification of the use of the TC.

When using the same lens on my K10D with firmware rev 1.2 (i.e. no SDM) the use of the TC slows down the shaft drive AF due to the additional friction of the AF shaft coupler in the TC. This also happens with my FA* 300 and seems to about halve the speed of the AF compared to no TC.

I have a strong expectation that Pentax will eventually introduce a TC with a chip to indicate it's use and provide the correct SR magnification. Until then, I believe that the Tamron 1.4x AF and the latest 1.5x and 2x Kenko DG AF TC's all have the power contacts to allow the SDM motor to function.

I voted for the 55/1.4. I'd love to have a fast weatherproof prime, and a new portrait lens.
This is my next target: fast mid range, great quality. The DA* 55 1.4 would fill the bill.

I voted for nothing. The DA* 35 1.4 is what I'd really be after.

My point exactly. They are just so tempting. I want every DA* lens, every DA Limited, and every FA Limited. Then, I'll be content.

For the moment, I'll be happy with:

DA 18-55/3.5-5.6
M 50/1.7
A 28/2.8 (waiting for it to arrive)
DA 50-200/4-5.6 (still need to buy)
DA 14/2.8 (still need to buy)

After the 200 and 300, what I really, really want is as Richard hinted at...is an update to the Rear Converter-A lenses.

Please correct me if I am wrong but isn't the FA 80-200 F/2.8 pretty darned hard to find? I would love to have one in my possession. One of our club members allows me to shoot with his now and then. It is simply the finest K lens I have ever shot with.

We got Da* 50-135 f2.8 which is a fantastic performer - the answer to Fa* 80-200 f2.8

I will be satisfied when Da* 55, 200, 300 and Da 35mm macro are finally available as I have been waiting for too long. I will get all these lenses into my collection too

Pentax needs to stop beating around the bush.

I just want a 70-200 f/2.8 or a 80-200 f/2.8.

There's 200 f/2.8 and 60-250 f/4. But no 70-200 or 80-200 @ f/2.8. I want to enjoy the richness of f/2.8 from 70 or 80 to 200. I can't lie to myself and say I'm willing to take a $1200 compromise for f4. Just f/2.8, please. SDM, so what. Weather sealing, so what. Just give me f/2.8. Look how many 70-200 f/2.8 Canon sells. I'd buy a Canon just for that lens.

So I guess my vote can go for 55-300. If the price is under $300, then it's a good deal.
yep, I know of 3-4 people who have bought nikon specifically to get the 70-200.

I am hoping the 60-250 is dead sharp at f4 to be a replacement for a 70-200 f2.8 if not then I am not interested in it. My biggest dissapointment from the announcement is that the 60-250 was pushed back, to my thinking it should be pentax's highest priority lens. (If tamron look to actually release the 70-200, I'd probably buy that first though)

The fa 80-200 is about $2000+ for a 2nd hand one (at least last time I looked) and there is so few around for sale (unless there has been a flood of them recently), it isn't a "just buy one"

umm, the sigma has been available new for quite some time. I've had 2 second hand ones, one with so bad backfocus that made it useless (considering this not a 'cheap' lens) and one I couldn't pick the difference in shots with my da 50-200 so I dont think it was real flash. I'm not keen on third time lucky.

The tamron isn't available, and although shops are listing it, tamron still say they dont know when they will release it

I've bought so many dud 2nd lenses that were 'dead sharp' 'no problems at all' etc etc off ebay, I'm not keen to ever buy a 2nd hand lens again (unless I know who I am buying from).

So we are at about 18months - 2 years since anything in class has been available new. and considering it's a pretty fundamental class for many people, I think it should be high priority
