Rare Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 HSM on eBay

For those of you who missed out on this great lens before it was discontinued, there's a nice used copy that just showed up on eBay. Bidding started at $619 and ships in the US for $10.

*RARE* for PENTAX - Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC APO HSM II | eBay

I bought the 50-150mm just before it was discontinued, and it is my most-valued lens. It is perfect for indoor sports/performances, and is much smaller and lighter than the 70-200's. Image quality is very nice, sharp all the way from f/2.8, and autofocus is silent and very fast.

Good luck!

Well, it's still a relatively rare lens in the sense that a copy only shows up on eBay a few times a year (if that!). It's not a lens that you can decide to buy just anytime, and immediately find one. I have an automatic saved search setup on eBay, and the last one listed before this was in August of 2011.

I just checked the marketplace, and I only saw one 50-150mm, and it was listed at $900.

I have this lens, and won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. It's just such a great lens — small, fast, and and great IQ!

Yes, the lens listed on the German eBay site under item #380438533887 is the same model. It's listed at 799 Euros + 20 shipping, which comes to $1045 US.

If you're interested in a 50-150mm, it might be worth your time to try contacting the US seller to see if he's willing to ship internationally. The item # for the US lens is 130700377880. You might try searching for the item number, and see if it will allow you to view the listing. The seller's eBay name is lik1, so you could also try searching for his profile.

It's now been bumped to the top of the marketplace where it's easy to find, but earlier when I typed 50-150mm in the search box, only one came up. I think if I would have searched just 50-150 (without "mm") it probably would have come up.

Tthey disc evry damn thing that is any good.

What about this...Tokina AT-X AT-X 535 PRO DX 50 mm - 135. It has good reviews for Nikon mount. Did they make it in Pentax? If so, how does it compare to the 50-150 Sigma?

I believe that the Tokina 50-135mm and the Pentax 50-135mm are the same optical formula. The Pentax has a silent SDM focus motor, and possibly different coatings (I'm not positive on the coatings).

As far as comparisons to the Sigma 50-150mm, they both have excellent image quality. Some people claim that the Pentax 50-135mm has better bokeh, but that is debatable. My 50-150mm is very sharp, even wide open, and has excellent contrast and bokeh. The Sigma, of course, has the advantage of slightly more reach.

In terms of performance, the 50-150mm unquestionably focuses much faster than the 50-135mm. The 50-135mm has a reputation for leasurely focus speed, whereas the 50-150mm's HSM focuses very quickly.

And one final thing you should be aware of, is that the Pentax 50-135mm does not have a great reputation for reliability. There have been numerous accounts of the autofocus motor dying after only a few years.

I didn't know it was discontinued. Nice to know I own a highly regarded lens. I really love this one too, it's my most frequently used lens to date. It's seen 6 000 of my 20 000 total photos taken. IQ is great, good focal range, wide & constant aperture and fast/silent focusing. Easily my most versatile lens. Highly recommend.

sigma: fast focus
pentax: weather seal
that's the main difference.
