M 50/1.7 vs. F 50/1.7

I own the M 50/1.7. I just won the F 50/1.7 on eBay earlier today for $122 shipped. If you were in my position, would you buy the F 50/1.7? Why? (I need some convincing.)

i assume the F is autofocus vs the M.

this comes into play if you had to hand off your camera to a noob that didn't know how to focus and you wanted to get in front of the camera to get into the picture.

I did just that several weeks ago. They are optically the same, but the M lenses' metering on the K10D becomes unreliable as you stop down, and the AF can be very convenient.

Mind you, I got my F50/1.7 for 45$ (cheaper than what I paid for the M50/1.7), so it really was a no-brainer in my case...

Well, is $122 a good price for the F?

That ultimately depends on the state of the lens, but it seems to be a bit below the recent average going price (which is nearer to 200$ form an eBay completed listings search).

Lens is in mint condition with no scratches on the body or the glass. It works perfectly, or so the listing says.

Yes.
Because it was there:-)
That was a pretty good price for what I've seen them go for. I don't have one but I've seen awesome pictures taken with it.
Actually I probably wouldn't have bought it only because I have the FA 50/1.4 already. But I do have the M 50/1.7. And the SMC Takumar 50/1.4. And now the SMC 55/1.8 is on it's way. I want an A 50/1.4 if I find one for a decent price to use on my Super Program. Now, that only leaves a F 50/xx hmmmm.........
I know, I know, I'm a sick man.

Definitely the F 50mm hands down.

1) Autofocus & manual focus vs manual only focusing
2) Can shoot at every exposure mode vs M mode
3) You exif shows the aperture info vs no aperture info
4) Option to select AF point vs centre only AF point
5) You can shoot and meter quicker with the F than the M
6) Exposure can occasionally be erratic with M lenses on the K10D

Alright, thanks creampuff. I guess I'll do it. Now I need to sell the M 50 first.

Wait, didn't you say you bought the f 50/1.7?

If you won the bid on ebay you should pay for it.

I have a friend who wants one too. If I'm not going to pay for it, then he will. If he backs out, then I'll definitely pay for it. I'm not going to break any eBay agreements here. I just want some opinions.

frogger, the lenses discussed are not the ones that you posted. They are the M and F series, not the A & FA series. You can check the lens review database on how they look like.
