DA 40mm ltd - impressive and so beautiful.

received my 40mm ltd today.... its really impressive! very beautiful lens.
It totally change the look of K5 (especially when I remove the 60-250 and put on the 40mm).

I should have get this lens earlier, the K5 is so light with the 40mm ltd.
So far it is sharp as everyone else is saying. I'm happy.

One question - if anyone aware of other lens hood that suit the 40mm ltd (I aware it come with a metal hood)?

Re the lens hood: I would think that you could get a 49mm diameter rubber collapsible hood for it (like we used to use on the various 50's that didn't come with hoods), but the factory hood is so nice that I would (and do) just use that. It's the smallest thing out there really, and it does work. Did your lens not come with a hood? That would be the only reason I would consider something else. I guess you could get a couple of stepping rings and make your own hood that would be similar to the factory one. Not sure what sizes would work though.

Nice lens. I wish it had a depth of field scale, though.

Oh Frank, thank for the reminder about the step down ring, I remember the forum member post. I think I have several of them when I try it on my 50mm 1.4.

depth of field scale.... hm...I don't see space for it! maybe Pentax can make this info 'electronically', like display on VF or top LCD for all its lenses. will be cool.

I just look at the lens and marvel at this lens for couple hours... LOL

I totally agree! I got my 40 ltd a few days ago (together with 21ltd and 70ltd) and I love it! 40mm is just the perfect focal length for me.

Why not just use the hood that comes with the lens? All the limiteds have their own unique hoods, which add to their charm. I suspect they also do the job pretty well, because they were designed by the same clever people who designed the lenses.

Congrats! DA40 is a little gem indeed. I was asked by folks on some photo event whether I had a pinhole camera ( I was lurking with K10D&DA40 that day)

I just picked one up during a trip to Tokyo. I found it and the 15 are great travel buddies.

My only fear is that I will mistake the little screw lens cap for a coin and spend it!

Btw- I love the idea of having the camera show the DOF. That shouldn't be difficult for Pentax to program.
