Hiya,

I don't know if this is the right section to write this.

Here it is. I have acquired a clean second hand Sigma 30mm f1.4 last month. The optics, mechanics and images are quite problem free. Except the focusing ring.

It is not as smooth and dampened as I expected it to. I never seen or touched another Sigma 30mm 1.4, but I am sure this isn't right. While I am doing very fine adjustments in MF the focusing ring does not move smoothly, especially in regions close to the shortest focusing section. The section through the infinity focus is a lot worse. It gets harder to move the focusing ring as I focus towards the infinity point.

It is as if it lacks oil or whatever softening agent and there is friction.


So.. I had to exaggerate the adjectives a bit, but here is the situation. Is there anything I can do at home? Or what do you recommend?

I do not have any experience with Sigma lenses, however their warranty is substantially longer than that of Pentax. Did the lens come with all the associated paperwork from the original owner? If so, you might be able to send it in for warranty repair / adjustment.

I'm holding my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 in my hand right now and the focusing ring is definitely smooth throughout the entire focusing range.

@interested_observer I will try to get info about remaining guarantee, and if not I might pay a little for repairs. thanks for your help
