Sigma 30mm 1.4 / PP Lens Correction

Hi guys,

i just got my new Pentax K-5 last Friday an the Sigma 30mm 1.4 also.

Had to adjust the Lens to +8 but since then the focus is spot on in center-AF Mode.

So far I am pretty impressed with the Lens.

Now to my question: In Lightroom 4 there is a Lens Correction Profile for the Sigma 30mm 1.4... Somehow i feel that the lens correction kinda "flattens" the image. The images seem to loose some of the 3D factor..
Is this pure imagination?

I would say that the barrel distortion does contribute to the 3D factor especially at wider apertures, so the correction profile probably "corrects" for that.

That Sigma 30/1.4 is a pretty sweet lens. Set it at f/1.8 indoors and point it at a smiling someone and watch the magic happen.

I have the same feeling with most lenses.

Me too, I was thinking this is mostly due to the vignetting correction. A small amount of vignetting is actually desirable in a lot of situations, especially portaits. But then you can always "re-vignette" the picture after cropping, Lightroom does that very well and easily. Just be careful not to overdo it, sometimes it happens.
Disclaimer: I don't have this particular lens though!

I tried lens correction in LR4 for my Sigma 30 on a couple of photos and decided that I liked the original (uncorrected) better.
To be honest the minimal (and mostly unperceivable) barrel distortion and vignetting of my lenses doesn't bother me (or the viewers of my photos) at all. The only correction I'm interested in is eliminating CA/PF (especially for my DA* 16-50 where it's really bad).
