well, now that i think about it, i actually might keep it. it's not like $45 is going to break my budget, and i certainly didn't buy it for the purpose of financial profit or gain.

the fact that lens actually is in excellent and medical instrument type of clean condition, (mint isn't right enough to describe it), was the initial factor why i bought this lens in the first place.

thanks all for great input

Put in perspective. you can't even buy a decent lunch in NYC for what you paid for the lens -- and that's actually a pretty good lens for it's class. Just enjoy it and look for that $5 50/1.7 you'll find in a sale bin someday to balance the books.

true that. i already have balanced the books though, bought at the same store yashica auto-yashinon dx 50/1.7 and 50/1.4 for $30 each.
1.4 is undergoing de-yellowing process , but from what i've seen both glasses are going for double and triple the price i paid.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but are you sure it needs deyellowing?

I'm not actually asking if it's yellow, it may well be, but the question is if it makes it unusable or harder to use at all. In my limited experience, a yellow lens only shows on slide film, while in both digital and print film you can compensate using what is called white balance. Exposing it to intense sunlight can actually do it more harm, like make the grease dissolve and then make the aperture blades sticky, or focus stiff, or something like that.

i see your point/concern. but i am not exposing it to the direct sunlight, i just use uv lamp, in a very cool room (65-70 degrees fahrenheit).
