The Takumar is an excellent lens, but you'll need an M42 adapter as well in that case, and you've got to make sure that it's one of the good kind. See here:

I'd recommend the M50/1.4 for quality, ease of use (no Ricoh pin, or adapter needed), and price.
KEH in Georgia, USA, currently has an "excellent" one for USD 133, so below EUE 110:

and you'd probably find something comparable near where you are.

Andrew,
I have the RICOH 50mm F1.4 XR RIKENON
The XR lenses have no Ricoh pin, they are straight PK mount, the Ricoh-P variants had the pin
I also have the SMC Pentax-A 1:1.4 50mm and the image differences are indistinguishable to me.

I'd recommend the Takumar.

Cheapest way to find it on Ebay is to look for an old Spotomatic body with the lens attached. The one that I brought was with an old Spotty listed for "parts repair/as is" for the body, but in the listing all it said was "camera broken, lens clean and work", they didn't even specify what lens it was, but looking through the pictures, it was obvious that it was the 50 1.4. Can't beat the $30 I paid for it- lens itself usually goes for $100+. Take some time poking around on Ebay- never know what you'll find that someone may have overlooked.

This is a great lens if you can get it cheap. At f1.4 it is a bit 'dreamy' but past about f2.8 it gets very sharp. I like it.

Your link leads to nowhere since this forum mangles up eBay links (at least for me). These are coming up on eBay UK in the next day or two. As usual the price will go stupid since they are f1.4.

Being a long-time (~40 year)Pentax film shooter, I've had several fast 50s around. I shot for years after digital with my M50/1.4 or Cosinon 55/1.2. A big issue for me with these lenses is that they will not work with P-TTL flash. A year ago, I picked up an FA 50/1.4 for use on my new K-5. All I can say is AHHHHHH--- Sharp lens, light, quiet, works with all auto functions. I have hardly touched my lovely old manual metal lenses. Yes, it costs more, but if you seriously like the focal length, consider spending a bit more.

I have both the smc-A 50mm f1.4 and the smc-A 50mm f1.7. The f1.7 can be picked up where I live (UK) fairly easily and inexpensively. A good copy is very sharp. The f1.4 is quite a bit more costly and probably outside your budget. It is also, so far as I can tell, quite likely to have less smooth focusing which might be a little loose and bitty. That's down to the way it is made, I understand, because the f1.4's focusing components don't last so well without servicing. When I got mine, the first thing I did was pay for a service, which involved replacing dried-out grease, and now it works superbly. I prefer it to the f1.7 because I like its rendering more at wide apertures, but quite honestly you cannot go wrong with an smc-A f1.7 if you find a good copy at a fair price. For 50, which is what mine cost, the quality of the image is astounding. All this said, there are loads of other 50mms to choose from and these are just two from a big bunch.
