Just ordered an FA 77 !

Sold a bike to do it but heck you can only ride one at a time can't you ? Studied long and hard over my next addition and focal length wise it's the natural bed fellow of my 35 and 50. DA70 would have gotten the nod a month or two back but with the price gap narrower then ever I reckon it's a no brainer. I have no ambition to make money on lenses but I envisage potential profit on the Limiteds in the years to come.

I better not regret this !

Expensive bike, huh?
Great choice indeed!

Oh the bike even hit me with a 50% loss over the build cost but thems the breaks. Figure I'd turn a rarely ridden piece of steel into a frequently used piece of glass. Plus I'm getting a bit of paid work from photography now and you don't get that from pulling wheelies. Sad and happy at the same time !

I am looking long and hard at the FA 77 recently so hope to hear your thoughts after a while. Trying to formulate some new techniques and wide-open closeups outdoors (of most anything except faces) are the target. I hate cleaning up CA though so have not been able to pull the trigger on the 77 without more research, especially on how the CA compares to any of my other lenses. But everything else on the 77 is just sweet!
Congrats.

77 is the first FA ltd I bought, no regret!
(The only lens that can beat this is FA*85, but it is a monster compare to 77).

great choice!

I don't know why people talk about CA with the FA 77mm like it's a big deal. I have used 2 copies of the FA 77mm and I have not encountered any issues with CA. I can only conclude those who did might have got a dud copy.

Great Lens

Have owned mine for some time now and would not part with it unless forced to. I use it on all my Pentax 35mm cameras, manual or auto, digital or film, and am never disappointed. I know it is an auto focus lens, and because of that the focus throw is quick, but it just seems to belong on my LX.

I bought one too yesterday, a black MIJ. Have only shot wide open with it so far. No reason to stop it down that I can think of!

And yes, I have the FA31 for a year now and I dont think I have stopped that one once as well.

I mention it because I have read multiple articles that SHOW the CA and it is very noticable at f2.8 and below. Other reviews that have compared the 77 to similar lenses make the 77 a star....except for the CA. It matters a lot to me because I shoot almost entirely outdoors in daylight. I do not believe the CA reports are only from folks with poor copies anymore than the DA70's used for comparison in the recent PF review, were extra special copies. If you have not read that review and examined the plethora of sample shots, you need to before taking this discussion any further. I have other reviews I can send you if you still believe its just dud copies. I am willing and would be THRILLED, to be wrong about this.

FA77 does have more purple fringing (is that CA? I don't know) than a DA70 in my experience of using both lenses, but the reality is it only comes up in areas of significant contrast, eg, strong backlighting, or chrome, or white text on black background. On film there is zero I've noticed, but on my K-5 is it there in the "right" conditions.

PF is a form of CA but its not an aberration of the lens, its caused by the sensor.
