Which lens with focal 55-58mm?

Which do you think is the best in this focal range?

I had the ST 55 1.8 before: love the focal, rendition, a slightly faster than K55
K55 1.8 more convenient than Super Tak because of the k mount
Helios 44-2, tried 1 or 2 shots, can't really compare with ST and K
any other recommendations?

Am favoring ST 55 1.8 now...
Help!!!

There are so many 'best' in this focal range:
- best bang for the bucks
- best and fast
- best macro, and so on.

My fav of 55s is K55/1.8, OM55/1.2, Fujinon55/3.5macro, Tomioka55/1.2, Mamiya55/1.4,
but only few 58. and Voigtlander 58/1.4 might be the best until I got some more 58s.
You are not asking for the 50s

There are members on this forum with over 100 50mm lenses. Very hard to pick a "best" for anything so many are so good. I do like S-M-C Tak 55mm f/1.8

I like Takumar's or M42s over K mounts because you can use AV mode. The Helios 44-2 58/2 is my favorite bargain lens in the range though.

thanks for the 3 replies that split between each of the choices ...
by the way am also considering mamiya 55 1.4 or 1.7.
50 is to short for me i can really see the 5mm difference

Of my 55s, my favorite is the M42 Sears Auto (Tomioka) 55/1.4, also sold as Mamiya-Sekor and other brands. Of my slower 55s, I have a hard time choosing between Argus (Chinon) 55/1.8, and SuperTak and Petri CC and Mamiya 55/1.8, all very sharp lenses. And all M42.

Going beyond there, I have an interesting projector lens, a Schneider PC-Cinelux AV 60/2.8 with shift but no tilt nor aperture. It gives images a Petzval-portrait flavor. I have cut off the back of its body, glued on a cheap PK macro tube section, and I use it on PK bellows. And I am tempted to look for a Nikon or Olympus 60mkm macro lens to modify for PK.

I have only found the Mamiya Sekor 55/1.4 in m42 mount that fits these criterias.
I think RioRico has the same lens as Sears auto m42 55/1.4.
Long focus throw, very easy to use. Sharp wide open. Beautiful bokeh. Depend on the background and distances, it may have some hash edges, but just fine for my tastes. No bigger than K55/1.8 (heavier). Cheap and very good.

I like it better than Pentax M 50/1.4 or Nikkor 50/1.4 ais.
I only use pentax A 50/1.4 when needed the auto aperture.
