550mm

Just curious if anyone has heard when they will, or if they will be making the 550mm available?

Well, it certainly doesn't seem likely in the first half of the year!

My guess is that they will make it available for $5000

$5k would be quite the kick in the teeth, IMO. Of course they've been completely out to lunch with their latest lens offerings, so I'm not going to say they'll price it cheaper.

It still would make it the cheapest 550 lens on the planet.

I've swung back and forth wildly on the price. According to this chart $5k is reasonable. However recall that they're doing a 'simple' lens design - perhaps even simple enough to allow it to collapse - which means the total # of lens elements that will be at the large diameter will be small, and of course they don't need the lens complexity required to shift lenses for vibration compensation.
