35 dal or 40 xs?

head to head comparison between these 2 lenses anyone?
i like what ive seen in the 35 dal thread but am worried about the plastic mount, my kit lens got chipped on the mount...
i like the small package design of the 40 but am still worried about the iq, there's no thread about this lens yet.

comparison anyone? need a best for the buck cheap af lens

I read somewhere on this forum that the 40xs is the same IQ as the 40Limited. I have no experience with the limited version however. I also have no experience with the 35DAL but so far I'm been really impressed with the IQ of the XS plus I love the size.

DxO just poo-pooed all over it... but then they didn't like the 40 Limited either.

I just read that! But I'll post my comments shortly in the other thread.

Don't know anything about the 40 XS but I've owned the DA 35 f/2.4 for over 2 years and have had no problems with the mount. I like it enough that I'll be getting rid of my FA 35mm f/2.0 soon.

SLRGear noted that the 40XS is not as good as it's Limited cousin.

At double the price and double the width, does it offer double the quality? The Limited SMC P-DA does offer significantly more sharpness than the XS model as well as convincingly better performance regarding chromatic aberration. Distortion and corner shading results are the same, and there are a few more frills such as a distance scale.

Exactly the opposite of what DxO says.

Compromise. Get a Mir-1 37/2.8.

I would spend the extra cash and get the 35mm Ltd macro. Not quite as fast, but having that macro function comes in very handy. Also you get the quality build of a "Ltd" lens. One of my favorite/most used lenses.

Both are good.
I've tried the DA35/2.4 and have the DA40XS.

Personally, I think it boils don't to preferred usage and focal length, though the 35mm has an edge for versatility as its a bit wider.
