I know you said non-zoom, but the DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 is just an absolutely fantastic piece of glass. Not quite as fast as the FA Limiteds, but sooooo versatile. It would make a great wedding lens.

I would consider at least 1 but perhaps 2 lenses, both zooms, for this purpose.

One would be the tamron 28-75mm F2.8. This is reported to be the best, sharpest lens in the 24-28mm to 60-80,, range.

while not a wide lens, it is a very fast lens, at f2.8, which is great for natural lighting shots, specifically within the church or reception hall, has constant apature, which is a benefit for fill flash, and should be wide enough for most group shots. The large maximum apature can also be a benefit for controlling depth of field, and isolation of the subjects in the photos.

You could supliment this with a either a wide angle prime, ~20 mm or a wide zoom, if you feel the need (including the kit lens)

Most portrait lenses want to be towards the long side, i.e. greater than 70mm on film or 50mm on digital as it is more flattering. A wide angle can cause very non flattering distortion of peoples features.

Oh yeah, the Tamron 28-75mm rocks too. I'm doing my first paid wedding this October, and I think my Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 28-75mm, and DA* 50-135mm will fullfill all my needs (though I do wish the Sigma 10-20 was faster, oh well...)

I think a FA 50/1.4 can fulfill most of your tasks, and it has good performance but cheap.

I wouldn't recommend prime lens for wedding unless you know what you're doing. Most wedding photog that shoot prime usually lug around 2 bodies with 2 primes on it. For Pentax the ideal primes would be 31mm and 77mm Limited. I would recommend a DA* 16-50mm for wedding if you can only afford 1 lens as the 50-135mm might be too long in most situation.

if you're not going to use flash, the DA*16-50 is the best going. you'll have to go into a camera store that stocks them, and try before you buy, because the quality assurance for this lens is bordering on the worst joke in pentax history.

for the same $, you could get two tamron 28-75 2.8s. depending on how tight for room the chapel and other locations are, you may find the range suits you better anyway.

if you could do magic though
get:
DA*16-50 on one K10D
DA*50-135 on another K10D

have a AF540FGZ flash with a sto-fen diffuser on both flashes, on each body

with a battery grip on both bodies too.

that should yield you 1600 shots, enough for any wedding i've ever heard of. expect sore arms later though.

I would simply go for Fa 77 ltd, light, great to blurr out background in a pleasing way. This is a golden lens for protrait work.

I've shot several weddings. For the first one, I only used an FA31. For the second one, I used an FA31 for the most part.

If you can only have one prime lens for weddings, I'd suggest to go with the FA31. Carrying two camera bodies isn't a fun thing to do in my own experience.

50 1.4 is an excellent lens for portrait sessions. I really cannot get over how amazingly sharp it is even at 1.4. If you couple this lens with a wide (da 21 or 16-50 DA*) you will have a killer set up.
I'd recommend staying with Pentax, as the other companies aren't bad... but Pentax really has something special about it...

Are you kidding? It's ok, but not that sharp! My FA 43 is sharper even wide open, compared to the FA50 @ f/2.0. But for its price it's highly recommended!

I've had several thoughts...as I am planning on getting into weddings this year...

Using a 21mm limited for group work...
Using a 40mm limited for indoors and/or the 70mm... I think each are fast enough with the 21mm only being a 1/4 stop slower than f/2.8. I might also even use a 100mm.

You might also have something longer, say a 70-200 or 70-210 for a few shots from a distance during the ceremony (but I wouldn't use if for the reception)

On a budget, these I think would surely get you by until you could spend more on the likes of the 31mm and 77mm which are great too....really any of the Pentax primes would be great. The 50mm is nice too but I think a wider prime and longer prime would be more useful. Of course, if you could score an FA*85mm lens that would be the bomb IMHO.

I shoot weddings on twin K10D's with my ole ist*D for some different situations...i like how it handles light.....

and when I'm roving around with two bodies, I have the new 50-135 on one and the kit 18-55 on the other.
my da* 16-50 is on layaway....
i carry a 70-300 sigma in the bag to finish off the range
and i carry a sigma 28-80(macro) for some macro stuff (cake, jewelery, details)
ive got this ole cheap pheonix wide angle with personality...and for some reason its faster at the same apertures (i guess its because of its large front element: 77mm filter thread)...its for specialty stuff.

my advice would be
dont shoot a wedding on just one lens.
but if you do...well i dont know.....
dude you have to reach all the way from the closeups on jewelry to the long range ring exchange

i would like to be a cheerful fellow....but ....one lens to handle 10hrs of 10-20 lighting situations, distances, proportions, etc?
