Would you buy a lens with no name?

the sad reality is it is just marketing BS.

In the old days, there were regular lenses, and * lenses, where the * indicated it was manufactured to, or at least tested to a tighter range of quality, and the * really meant something.

Now days there is no distinction, all the lenses are limited in a particular model. In that sense they should really be given a name, number or something, but don't call them limiteds.

Maybe they should be called Takumars (except that that will make everyone think they are cheap and under performing, due to the takumar bayonet lenses marketed in the 1980's)

Call them "L," with a red band round them?
Oh no, wait, "L" means cheap, with a plastic mount.
How about "G"?

I like UnLimited. I don't want to be limited by glass.

Don't know, it's better than delaminating plastic!

Better than my delaminating eyeballs too. I could use replacements. Glass, plastic, silicone, epoxy, spider-eyes, whatever. Yes, my eyeballs are already limited. But they have nice Zeiss optics in front of them! (2/5 of my Zeiss inventory sits on my face.)

Limited is easier to spell and pronounce than FA* : SD IF PDM Ml AF lens.

I'm for RioRico's "Unlimited". I have a few and, with my limited skills, I haven't found their limits.

Actually, the 43 Limited, the first Limited lens lens, was apparently called Limited because Pentax was unsure whether a high priced lens like this would sell at all. The Limited name was then a way out if it flopped; they could claim a Limited run...

Limited lenses are warning signs for the less fortunate. If you buy a limited lens your budget will be limited for the next few months. Limited food supply but amazing limited lens. Limited use of car, you'll have to walk or bus to school/work. Limited time with your significant other....that could be a good thing

It was a miscalculation. Whatever Pentax have planned since the A series, things often turned out quite differently. Just when Pentax was totally lost and planned the FA43/1.9 to be on limited run, it took off as a runaway success. By then it was too late, the term "LIMITED" was stuck.

The DA 15mm is a designated "Limited" lens - these lenses are made of high quality materials in a mainly manual assembly process and they enjoy an above average quality control. They're produced in "limited daily quantities" ... which sounds a bit like odd marketing blabla to me.
