Why Pentax call them Limited Series?

Was wondering, why Pentax call some of the lenses 'limited' and then keep producing them instead of keeping them really limited. If it implies high quality, shouldn't Pentax use some other term than the 'limited' which I think is misleading.

They must've called them "limited" because you're limited to a fixed focal length...
(Just kidding, I really don't know the real reason.)

Limited edition has come to mean top of the range nowadays in cars and same terminology is applied to its premium range by Pentax.

In the early days of the Pentax Limiteds, they might have meant Limited production. Each limited lenses was hand machined and assembked by one craftsman. If that craftsman was sick or on holidays, no Limiteds were produced.

Wasn't the 43mm supposed to be a limited edition lens but Pentax decided to continue on with the production of it?

They're not a limited run, like other products that are marketed as limited. They just can't churn these lenses out at as high a rate as other mass produced lenses because like selar said, they're assembled by hand. I do see them go out of stock from time to time, at least the FA Limiteds; not sure what exactly the reason for that is though. What I can say is that the three Limiteds I have are excellent lenses: top quality, all metal bodies and optical performance that won't disappoint. The build and feel are superb! Looks like you probably already knew that though from having the FA 77. I suppose using "Limited" is a bit of marketing nonsense. It's worked on me though, cuz I feel special having them.

It's marketing-speak, like NEW AND IMPROVED or COMPASSIONATE CRACKHEAD or 35MM EQUIVALENT. Pay it no heed.

Be aware that it will increase the price because of the additional ink that needs to be used to print that title

This is a prime reason why they should be not be called limited unless they are really limited. Because once you see your 'limited' lenses in unlimited quantity, that special feel may not remain that special

May be Pentax should have labelled them * or premium or whatever but not limited - that would set the expectations right.

How long till they make a D-FA* Limited 15-600 Aspherical Macro WR SDM(With Screw Drive Over-ride for when it breaks) F2.8 with a DxOMark resolution rating of 25+?

^They should try. Really really hard. Even if they never sell it, and just walk around with it on the mysterious K-1 prototype.
