If they make such a lens it will be twice as expensive so still not a replacement.

The 60-250 is listed as DA* but is full frame compatible. Or, at least, that's what I've read. Plus, if they're going to introduce a FF in the next few years, they need a compatible zoom. Wouldn't it make sense for this to be it? If its really 16-18mm, I guess not, because that's really wide but something like 20-65 might be possible.

I'm not saying Pentax is definitely going FF, but to at least have the option makes sense to me. And they need a zoom to even have the choice. Right now the FA31 is the widest FF lens.

Maybe, maybe not but it doesn't matter because they decided to market it as an APS-C lens.

The DA* zoom listed in the roadmap is roughly in the 24-70 range, which is very popular with full-frame Canikon shooters. The DA*16-50 covers the same field of view for APS-C.

My guess is that the new lens is very likely to be full frame compatible, and as such will complement the DA*60-250 perfectly.

It is tempting to see this as another indication that the Pentax full frame is around the corner....

If you look at the lens roadmap the lens is 20-80mm at least, it could be slightly longer and wider.

If you *really* look at the lens roadmap, you will notice the ends of the bar indicating the zoom range are deliberately blurred. 20-80 is pretty much the best-case scenario.

Time will tell what the final numbers will be. 20-80/2.8 would be awesome, but a sacrifice on zoom range, speed, size or cost will almost certainly be needed somewhere.

yeah but at 20-80 the lines are solid so i doubt it will actually be a 24-70 lens, that's all i'm saying

I'm actually more inclined to think they are making a pro walk-about lens so a 16-90mm f/4 is my guess.

Depends if you mean full 35mm frame or full APSC frame.. ho ho!

They would not reveal a batch of DFA lenses on the roadmap when they haven't even announced a FF camera yet. That could hurt their current sales of APSC cameras or cause embarrassment if the FF doesn't materialise. But that doesn't mean that they won't be FF compatible, by any means.

The DA* zoom on the roadmap suggests wider than 20 and longer than 80. That range would likely be something like a DA* 18-85/4 AL ED [IF] and the sensor coverage remains to be seen. There is also a DA wide zoom on there that appears to be ~ 11- under 20. Could this finally be the Tokina version in something like a DA 11-16/2.8? There is also something on there that looks like a long tele. These are all for 2013 or later. For 2012, there is a high mag zoom listed on the road map that could be something like a DA 18-250 replacement/revision but the bar appears to not go quite to 250.

Not really FF will cost at least twice as much what they have to offer now so different market.

I think you're a bit cross sighted....
It's about 12 to 28 since it ends just under 30 not 20!
