Tamron 28-200mm AF LD f/3.8-5.6

(EDITED TO CORRECT FL-the lens is the 28-200mm, not the 18-200mm)

I picked this lens up used a week ago. There is a local CanNikon camera shop that always has a box full of used K-mount lenses in excellent condition and I stop by every once and awhile to rummage through it. Anyway, I had my doubts because the reviews on this lens are not all that great at the forum here. But, when I tried it on my camera in the store, I just really liked it, so I thought what the heck it's only $149 bucks and it's a useful walk-around FL.

I'm really pleasantly surprised with this lens. It's sharp and easy to use.

This is the second Tamron lens I have bought; the first being the 70-200mm f/2.8 and I think maybe I am a Tamron fan.

Yea, he was kinda giving me the stink eye in this shot, wasn't he.
Roosters have quite a lot of attitude.

Sure do! I was even attacked by one once!

Almost forgot to say, great shot. I'm guessing: evening or fill flash?

is it really 3.8-3.6 ? I cant find any info about this lens. The only 18-200 I see from tamron are the 3.5-6.3

I have the promaster branded version of this lens, 18-200 (3.5-6.3)

Thank you, he was under a tree and the setting sun was peeking through the leaves and lit up his eye.

I bought an 18-200 as well and use it a good bit. It is a good walk around lens and works well for me in good light. I also have the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 for sports and recently bought a Tamron 90 f2.8 macro that I also love.

I have that Tamron too and am generally quite happy with it.

Looking at all the reviews (lenstip.com, slrgear etc) would make you have doubts but it is a decent enough lens as a walkabout shooter.

As a bonus, DxO Optics Pro will be releasing a lens correction module for the Tamron 18-200 on Pentax soon, so using the 18-200 will be like shooting a Zeiss.

I still cant find any info on this lens. Are you sure its 18-200 ? The only 3.5-5.6 of similar zoom range I was able to find was a 28-200

Interesting. The recent options in the 18-200 range seem to be below.
I have (b), so any comments of mine above only apply to that version

(a) Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC
(b) Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical IF AF
(c) Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR Aspherical IF Macro AF
(d) Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF Macro AF

OMG-I am just losing it. I am so embarrassed. I have a lot on my mind and wasn't paying attention to what I was typing. I didn't even notice I typed 18.

Anyway yes, thank you again mpmetro.

It is not this one-
Tamron 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 AF XR Di II LD Aspherical IF Macr

It is this one:
Tamron AF 28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 XR Aspherical [IF] MACRO

They both actually have somewhat similar ratings in the review section, but the 28-200 is an older lens.

Sent from my Nook tablet using Tapatalk 2.
The 70-200mm f/2.8 is such a wonderful lens isn't it? You know, I was looking at the 90mm Macro and ended up getting a used Pentax FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro instead. I can't complain, the FA 100mm macro is a very nice lens but I'll bet I would love that Tamron 90mm as well.

Yes, thank you rawr and I have (c) , but this morning when I posted this thread my body was present and my brain was somewhere else-floating around in the Ether.

The lens you have seems similar- Nice color and sharpness in your photos. For a lens with such a long FL and in that price range it's really a good value for the price.
