Lenses are amazing after Eric serviced them

I had him service my K 35/3.5 and M 50/1.4 and after he tuned them up they are so much sharper! I guess they needed calibration. I'll be keeping these gems! If you have an old K or M lens and it doesn't seem to quite live up to what everyone else is saying about them, I suggest you send them to Eric for tuning. I notice great improvements.

I also had him fix a 44K-4 .. it might of been his first he serviced I am not sure but he regreased it and managed to keep all the aperture ball bearings together It is a very tight focus though-- I guess this is normal for this lens? Is there an adjustment to make it focus a little easier? It's nice and smooth now (was very dried out before and messed up) but it's just a bit tight.

Thanks, that's good to know it worked out well for you. I sent him a more recent lens that he said is pretty challenging. He seemed interested in taking it on, so hopefully it works out well. My wallet is quite a bit lighter after the whole process of getting the lens, finding out it wasn't up to my standard but basically being stuck with it, and sending it in to be improved.

Eric is just an amazing fair guy and we are quite lucky to have him. He removed some serious fungus from a 6x7 lens (on 4 or 5 elements of a 300mm lens)I had recently bought. I think it may be the last time he does that! However, the glass came back just clean as a whistle. Yep, Eric is 'da man!

Um. Who is Eric?

And how much does it cost to get a lens all fixed up and cleaned like that?

A clean and focus is $15. To clean oil off blades, clean and focus: $38.

To rebuild my 44k-4 he charged $55.

$13 shipping for 3 lenses and one asahi k2 body.

There's an outfit in London UK that services and repairs Pentax film-era bodies and pre-autofocus lenses.

Harrow Technical

I used them a few months ago to service an smc-A 50mm f1.7 and to service and repair an smc-A 50mm f1.4. They did a good job, and after a service the smoothness of the focusing ring on the f1.4 is a joy. No connection beyond being twice a customer. If I buy any more old classic lenses I'll run them past this outfit.

Does he fix decentered lenses? I asked him if he would fix my DA21mm lens which came decentered from the factory, and he asked me what that meant. Am I just using the incorrect terminology?

His website says lenses 24mm to 500mm. Maybe his equipment won't work with such a wide angle lens?

How about saying: you don't think the glass inside is aligned properly, because when you look at the photos, one side of the picture is blurrier than the other.

Another recommendation for Harrow Technical from me...they took a M 2/85, sorted out the diaghram which was stuck and cleaned the externals up.

Alternatively, I'd also like to recommend the Camera Repair Workshop who just fixed up a 3.5/28 M series lens for me, including collimating it apparently. All in cost was under GBP 30 including postage...bought the lens for GBP 15 due to oil having migrated from the diaghram onto the internals.

I have a Voigtlander 180/4 that now refuses to focus to infinity. A shame for such a good lens. I wonder if they could fix and clean it up for me.
I guess I just have to send them an email
