New Sigma 18-250 Macro announced

I wonder how this newly announced Sigma 18-250mm all-in-one zoom model will compare with Pentax's planned "High Magnification Zoom Lens," which may be a 18-200mm zoom? I like that it's a lot smaller and lighter than Sigma's current model.

And the bigger question for me personally: will I want to buy one for $500 if I already own a DA 18-135 and DA 55-300?

Spec'd pretty good - if it incorporated the FLD elements it would be a slam dunk, doesn't look like it does though...

I'm anxious to hear about it. I'm always thinking I need to replace my 18-55 kit lens, but haven't settled on a replacement yet. This and the Pentax look intriguing.

Hope it's close to the good optical abilities of the old Tamron/Pentax 18-250 but without too much zoom creep problems and with a silent focusing motor too.

The current Sigma 18-250 is a great lens but it also has room for improvement - contrast, color & resolution towards both ends of the zoom range. Judging from the bug photos of Walter Arnold @ f/6.3, I think it has been vastly improved. The shots at @f/22 are also great, but at that aperture even $50 "kit lens" can score great result.

Many Sigma releases never get made for the K-mount. Let's see what happens with this one. I would probably buy the 18-135 instead for WR but it's nice to have more lens options from Sigma and Tamron.

Well, I assume there will be a Pentax version because they announced it and you can pre-order it from B&H right now. Not sure when it is actually released; may not be until the end of summer at earliest. I already have DA 18-135 so I'm not sure I need the added reach up to 250 (might be convenient sometimes for travel), but I agree that it's nice that there's more third party options for the K-mount, especially with Tamron not releasing its 18-270 for Pentax.
