I guess the closest thing would be the Pentax 60-250mm, but what's that cost? Like $1600 or something?
And the 60-250mm is back to $2000 now. Does somebody ever actually buy one at that price? And the DA* 300mm f4 is back to $1400.

I would've considered the DA* 300mm as an alternative to the Sigma, but for the same cash I can have a real good chance of winning the zoom at auction. Might settle for buying a Pentax FA 100-300mm 4.7-5.8 until I can track down a sigma.

The 60-250mm is def overpriced. The 50-135mm is a incredibly nice piece of glass and much wider for less and the 300mm is also cheaper. Seems foolhardy to me IMHO.

I would be VERY tempted to buy the Sigma 100-300 from you. Such a fantastic lens!! Had it when I had my K20D and now really wish I had one with my K-5 higher ISO capabilities. I ended up getting the DA* 60-250 instead and I think it is a great lens. But so much overlap with my 50-135 and that extra 50mm reach would be nice.

I actually rather like the way Sigma made the AF clutch mechanism of the 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG, It keeps your hand on the focus ring instead of having to shift your grip to the side of the lens to fiddle with some annoying switch. Though Sigma could have given the focus mechanism more damping..I find it to be a bit touchy.

I have a question - is the AF/MF clutch the same on the Nikon version as well? Or due to HSM, it has full time manual override?
I have the Nikon version on my D7100, What happens is, when you're auto focusing and the distance goes past infinity on the dial, it can't refocus back into any other range without you physically helping it by turning the focus dial back into the range.
I've already replaced the focus motor once, and I took the lens out today, had this issue. It's only been a month, so I may have to take it back to them..what do you guys suggest? Tried cleaning the contacts as well, same problem. At any distance less than infinity, the focusing is fast and true, but as soon as I go past infinity,it can't refocus back on its own.

In K-mount, the 100-300mm does not have in internal focus motor, and is screw-driven by the camera body.

^Yep, I know that, that's why I'm wondering if there is an AF-MF clutch or FTM.. on checking, it seems to be a FTM override on the Nikon mount lens I have, because of the HSM motor.
Do you think it's a motor issue? Or is there another explanation for the behaviour I'm experiencing?
