Jeff, there's a sweet spot in the focusing but you need a micrometer to measure it. I think with use you can begin to instinctively know where it is, just like with infinity, you have to dial it back just a fraction. This is all anecdotal, Kelly and James would be able to confirm this.
But wide open, tack sharp focus isn't the name of the game, it's the bokeh.
gotcha
Maybe a different focusing screen or a magnifying eye piece would assist in locating that sweet spot. With my near-vision not what it used to be I find it difficult to snap to perfect focus.

(PS - I have hesitated long enough, I just ordered the Katz Eye split screen. I use MF Lenses at least 50% of the time so hopefully this will assist me is having a greater rate of shots in focus. The K10D screen isn't helping me in this regard.)

I keep on saying I need a different screen also but haven't been able to break down and get one. I might start with the eye cup.

Heres another one from the other day.

Out today but only with the VL briefly. It was a macro day today so I gave this one most of the day off. I did keep wanting to pull it out of the bag though.

It's not a macro or
even a close-focus lens. It's closest focus is .45 meters or 17.5 inches.

Nokton 58mm f1.4 set

Though I'm sure if you throw an extension tube on it ...*dreaming*... it would be out of this world for macros...

I'm thinking with the next round of overtime I'll be ordering one of these... just one quick question, I read in the description that it is capable of full metering - does that mean picking different AF points works too? (even though it's only manual focus...) like an A lens how you can still choose a focus point and get focus confirmation when you hit the right spot?
