I think this lens is going to end up on my short list.
Mind you that it does have problems with bokeh CA and imperfect circles with certain lighting. It still has issues but behaves rather differently from the usual 50mm out there
Originally posted by frank Excellent shots again, James. You made me wanna have this lens too. I might just buy one so I'd have two Voigtlander lenses instead of one (the other one is VL125
). How do you compare this VL58/1.4 against the A50/1.2 or 1.4? I had both A50/1.2 and 1.4, now only a A50/1.7. Since the VL58 is instock here in SG, I might just buy one to give it a try ... How do you think?
Nokton is not expensive but it is quite surprise to my lens line up. You will find this lens very "different" since you owned A 50 f1.2 and 1.4
Nokton gives a cool tone (much more than Voigtlander 125mm macro). Even with higher aperture, the colour tends to be crisp with clarity instead of orange hue. The manual focus can be hard at f1.4 (not as hard as A f1.2 at f1.2) but it is the bokeh I really care about. Bokeh is all there is with this lens. Earlier with the purchase, I had cursed the lens many times for its unsharpness at f1.4 (due to my clumpsy hands). But the bokeh rendering being soooo soft and dreamy. This is a crafty lens to own.
A 50mm f1.2 has a problem with harsh edges in the bokeh. Any post processing might increase the contrast in the bokeh compartment but the bokeh can become ugly and unpleasant.
With Nokton bokeh, there is a lot of possibility to post process. Really somethig. Not to mention the build, it is a pleasure to use this prme.
Funnily, I got my nokton and ultron from a clubsnap community seller
Small community but very knowledgeable members. Really nice and helpful!
