I have not heard of that before. How does one do that?
Ha! Nifty idea! Cut a small piece of plastic. Countersink a hole in it for a short 1/4" screw. Screw that into P&S base. Slide the assembly into the SLR hotshoe. Brilliant!

It works very well, you just have to make sure both cameras are pointing at the same thing.

About 29 seconds into this video you can hear my camera going...

What sort of bag do you carry this large lens in? Looking for a bag that will hold the DA 60-50 along with Sigma 8-16 and DA16-50 with a K5.

I know this isn't answering your question, but thought I would let you know what fits the 60-250 mounted on the K-5 (with grip) perfectly. I use a Lowepro Toploader 75AW for just that combination alone - a perfect fit.

It is a substantial lens, but in my experience I find it quite hand holdable and use the lens extensively.

In lower light where slower shutter speeds are needed I'll often use a monopod. In normal daylight my normal setup is K5d + battery grip and 2nd battery + DA*60-250, TAv mode, f8, 1/350

kcmadr, LOVE the twin cam setup! I'll look into this for taking photos at fire scenes.

Funny your should mention the Toploader Stormtech, I use the Outback 200 myself

Lowepro Outback 200 Modular Beltpack LP36077-PEU B&H Photo Video

Great to carry a small amount of gear for action shots.

Another confirmation of the K5/60-250 combo being very hand holdable. It's clumsy if you plan to hang it around your neck while say hiking (I've done it for short, scenic stretches but end up stabilizing it with one hand) but if you have a toploader like other people mentioned it's not an issue. As far as actually shooting with it, between the K5's SR & High ISO performance and the constant F4 it makes for a great combo. Awesome IQ and great reach in one lens.

I never ever use a neck strap. I hold it mostly in hand and occasionally switch to left hand for some relief. I have a Tamrac Velocity 7x that should hold it nicely plus another lens or two if needed.

Now I wonder what short range zoom pairs best with it?

Definitely down to how steady you are, I regularly hand-hold me 70-300@300 down to some pretty slow shutter speeds (I've done 1/30th before) but others might struggle at 1/90th.

I've hand held a 200 as low as 1/25 but the results were not razor sharp. Acceptable for the use but not what the lens is capable of

I have the smcp 17-70 Canuck, but I think I am going to get the DA* 16-50 instead. the 17-70 is a decent lens but i have seen sharper results from the 16-50 - unless you get one of the bad ones (which is why I haven't hit the buy button yet). Getting a bad copy would really be a bummer, I guess you can send it back though.
Here is one with the 17-70
