Pentax Lens prices are back up

Just looked at BH site and the prices for Pentax digital lens are back up....this is crazy pricing strategy. I am glad that I purchased my 15 limited last week at the lower price.

I'm a bit miffed about this because I just decided to buy a 15mm. Last night the price was $549 and this morning it's back up to $659.

OP: Your question on the ASK B&H forum will go unanswered for a couple weeks. The B&H buy is on vacation. How DARE he?!?!?

@Adam: Surely you must have contacts at B&H and/or Adorama who are able to illuminate the background of the recent price roller coaster.

Many seem to be mad at Ricoh, but perhaps Ricoh has nothing to do with the recent US price changes?

Is it Pentax USA?

Is it the retailers?

It would be great, if you could someone (anonymously, if necessary) to tell us what is going on.

If I were you, I wouldn't be happy with Henry's answer to your question.

He answered as if the Pentax USA UPP didn't exist and as if Pentax USA had never said that they didn't change prices.

I do not know who is telling the truth, but Ned Bunnell's and Henry's stories do not appear to be compatible with each other.

When the new US pricing policy was announced,
didn't it include the option for specific deals and fluctuations from time to time?
This may be what we have been seeing.

Read between the lines of Henry's response (referenced above). UPP is a form of sales channel management in which the dealers are partners in the manufacturer's business plan. As such their short term needs are accounted for by staying in close communication as part of a long-term commitment and relationship.

Give PRIAC and the dealers some time to become accustomed to this significant strategy and tactical change. It has only been a few weeks, after years of benign neglect - and possibly pathological disregard - by Hoya.

We still need to evaluate (eventually) how well current PRIAC management executes, but there won't be enough infomration to make a proper opinion for 12 - 18 months..

Henry P will be visiting the forum from time to time while Chuck is away- but you know how retail works. These days Pentax fixes all the prices

I had put aside the $1000 for the 50-135mm at the new price and now a couple weeks later it's nearly $1600 on B&H. Going to be looking for a used one now.

At some point, Pentax (or whoever) will figure out that they are losing sales with the higher prices. I know I probably won't buy at these levels. As it is, I find it hard to justify Pentax branded lenses when the quality of other brands and even older Pentax glass isn't far off but often as low as half the price.

Buying the DA 15 at 659 seems absolutely insane considering the price of the DA 12-24, Nikon 12-24, etc. It is no better a lens... only smaller.

IMHO, the DA limiteds are way overpriced, and the only reason I can see myself staying with the system. The difference between owning the DA 21, 40, and 70, and the Tamron 24-70 f2.8, is pretty small in the IQ department, but the price difference is enormous now. Green-button metering is really quite broken with my K-20d (I need to memorize and input exposure compensation for every lens as I change apertures), and A lenses are rare on craigslist, overpriced on EBay due to their scarcity. I would *prefer* to stay with Pentax in the long run because I like tiny primes, but I see no value in a system that is so very overpriced considering the picture quality. Compact primes are nice if you have a tiny camera to attach them to, but the K01 dwarfs the Pentax film bodies like the Program Plus.
