I think the 77 is sharper. They tested both the 70 and 77 on a K10D and while that's obviously a lower resolution sensor, they got higher numbers from the 77. The 70 is sharper across the frame at f/4 or wider though.

Since folks mentioned the 35/2.4, I have one and it's pretty damn sharp. Checked focus accuracy and it's dead on with no adjustment needed. I was a little skeptical of the plastic build and slow max aperture but with how cheap it is I decided to give it a try. Very glad I did!

Just to put it in perspective with the 70, some 16mp charts for both...

As for which of all Pentax lenses is sharpEST, well...I ain't got a clue! This is all a little too much fussing over MTF graphs.

The DA70mm is one lens that i regret selling, especially now that i no longer have the 50-135mm.
I do not know if it is Pentax's sharpest lens nor do I care. It is certainly sharp enough for me and any non-measurebator.
I agree on the sharpness but that PF is unsightly

It appears that out of all the Pentax lenses tested by Klaus at www.photozone.de, the DA 70 LTD is the reigning champion as far as resolving power goes. The K5 is capable of resolving a maximum of 2750 LW/PH, the DA 70 acheives 2706 in the centre at f4. Is it possible it is the sharpest Pentax lens ever made? The FA77 is yet to be tested on K5, but it beats the FA 31 LTD roundly. Wish Klaus would hurry up and test FA77LTD, but is it likely to beat the DA 70?
The 77 was and is not designed to be used to take images of a test chart. It is designed to allow light hit the sensor and create an image, it is especially good I find, at creating images of people's faces. Strangest thing though, when people look at images of themselves that have been taken with the 77.. they go oooh and ahh, smile and look again

Doesn't light hit the sensor when a test chart is photographed?
