Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 focus ring

Hi,
I have a simple question. If you own a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, and you set your camera to manual focus, is the movement of the focus ring smooth? In my copy, it seems to go in discrete positions, almost as an aperture ring. It doesn't happen with the Tamon 17-50, so I wonder if I should send it back for repairs.

Thanks
Alessandro

I had the same issue with my brand new Tamron 28-75 lens. It feels exactly like you describe it, like subdivided in many little steps or a sprocket in use for the focus ring.

I sent it to Tamron Germany for service and didn't hear from them 6 weeks. After a claim, I was told "we are waiting for spare parts from Japan", but two days later I got the lens back - obviously untouched and without a remedy for the issue.

But manual focussing works in spite of the strange noise and the feel, and AF is spot on, so I decided to leave it alone.

BTW, a fine piece of optics.

So, don't worry unless you notice to have missed focus in MF.

if you bought brand new, then you can just go to store for exchange loh, see if different copy feel different

Mine feels just like that, to the point where manual focus is tricky...

I suddenly got this issue with my 17-50. It was always smooth before. I wasn't sure if something happened when I dropped my bag this weekend, but now it's acting like how you describe.

Did anyone ever find out a solution?

I bought this lens new around April and currently the manual focus feels smooth.

Mine turns smoothly and easily, but if I turn it quickly I can hear a slight whirring or ratcheting noise. I assume the noise is from some kind of gears inside the lens and is normal. My Sigma 30mm 1.4 and 10-20mm f4-5.6 behave much the same way.

I never noticed it until you mentioned it. Mine turns smoothly, but yes there is a tiny noise as Edgar describes

There's definitely vibration/noise from the screw drive gears as you focus. I haven't noticed it causing focus issues though, just feels weird compared to other lenses.
