Does this look repairable? (FA SMC 100-300)

Hello!

I was thinking about getting this and repairing it!

imgur: the simple image sharer

It looks like the bayonet is broken, but I am not sure if there is any damage behind that. The seller is not as well. It looks like it just needs the bayonet mount, and the piece that that attaches to. Or am I wrong?

This would be one hell of a steal (even with the parts ordered from the Pentax parts department). The problem is I'm not sure if this well work. The sller said the zoom, aperature, and focus works so it seems fixable.

Any help would be appreciated! Should I know what other parts I need? The service person sent me a parts list, but I can't really tell what is what!

Thanks again.

How big a steal? I mean we're talking about a $100 lens.

True. Between parts and the lens its at about 38. Though there's the chance I can't fix it at all. It looks good other than the bayonet mount, however.

Use this chance to learn about working on lenses, and also put a metal mount on this fantastic lens?(IE: Buy old metal mount plate, swap plates - Assuming there's no electrical contacts to it, as it's just the base)

While you're at it, add some method of weather sealing to the back, then attach a high grade UV filter. Plastic Fantastic 2.0?

The seller is a camera repair shop with a good reputation. I was in there just last week. Consider that they have trained repair people on staff and they are selling it as parts rather than fixing it themselves. This is not an expensive lens so unless you are looking to learn lens repair I would let it pass.

I've had lenses that looked fine that needed $300 in repairs. Looks really don't have much to do with it.

Good points everyone! It might end up being a net loss if I get this and still can't repair this.

I think I'll pass, I'm too new to be fooling around with this stuff!
