sigma 18-50mm 2.8 macro vs. non-macro

Hi

Just wondering if anybody has a clue whether the newer sigma 18-50mm f2.8 macro is significantly different from the older non-macro version of this lens (other than the closer focusing capability).

The older model is still available and considerably less expensive right now, just wondering if the optics are inferior or there is some other reason I ought to spring for the newer model.

I've looked all over the web for some info on this but to no avail. thanks!

there is reviews of both, one is nikon and one canon and you are not supposed to compare across systems, but I wont tell if you dont

I don't have any experience with the older non-macro version, but I'm satisfied with the macro version. Most of the pics taken on my flickr site were done with it. If you need full-res pics I can send you some.
