"A" Setting

Hello mcook,
Good job on the photos! Looks like you're catching on fast.
You may know this already, but I'll just throw it out; To set the Pentax "A" series lenses to "Auto", you press the little black button to the left of the F/22 mark on the aperture ring. While holding this button down, rotate the ring as far as you can to the right. It will lock in place and you can shoot in aperture priority (Av on the mode dial). One of the thumb wheels (on mine it's the front wheel) will change the f-stop and the camera will set the correct shutter speed. No green button.
To shoot in full manual, set the mode dial to "M" and unlock the aperture button. Set the aperture (using the aperture ring) to whatever stop you need and set the shutter speed with the (other) thumb wheel. Then you will have to use the green button, you're in "Auto-Nothing" mode.
Good Luck!
Ron

On the K5, if you turn the mode dial to "M,"
you can also just leave the lens aperture ring at its "A" setting,
select the aperture with the rear wheel,
and the shutter speed with the front wheel.

This is a good way to go if you're basically using Av mode,
but need a quick manual override for one or two tricky shots in a series.
