You might be right

The problem with field curvature might explain a lot of the problems. But is the issue that the lens is OOF because the test chart looks relatively sharp or is it chromatic aberration (which is just a different type of focusing issue) because all the colors are not converging as they should. I need to take some pictures further back and see if I continue to get the color shift. But from reading your review it sounds like it's not going to get better with a different copy of the lens.

I had 3 brand new copies and they all behaved the same, and I did many tests just to be certain. What you can do is to rely on LV for manual focus, and this is probably the only practical way to make sure the centre is in perfect focus. Shooting distance is not really the issue here. When the subject is OOF, CA happens.
