Ebay have a FA 100mm f2.8 macro listed, but it states some minor scratches on the rear lens element. How big a problem would this be? I know it is less of a problem on a front element.

It says internal scratches on the internal elements. Either they're talking about fungus or dust. I have no idea how scratches could appear on the internal elements unless the lens was dismantled by an unqualified technician or dropped during production and still sold.

In any event, I seriously doubt those scratches will have any noticeable effect on your photographs. Look at this blog post: LensRentals.com - Front Element Scratches . Just goes to show how much damage it takes to cause any effect at all.
