How WR is the kit lens?

Sean Reid in a July 17 article about using the K5 and the Olympus OMD M5 in the rain,(Welcome to ReidReviews) makes the comment that the WR kit lens is only partially sealed - just at the lens mount - whereas the 16-50* is more robustly weather sealed and thus he used that lens in the test. Anyone know if this is this true?

The thing about partial sealing isn't true, as the kit lens has numerous other seals around the other shell. The reason DA* lenses are usually better, though, is that many of them have internal focusing / zooming (the 16-50mm only has the former), which means fewer moving parts.

I don't have a diagram for the 18-55, but this is more or less what the seals look like in non-DA* lenses:

Welcome Aboard! Here is a previous thread that discusses this topic at some length:

I`ve used the 18-55WR for 1,5 hours in a severe snowstorm at -10C, both (K5 and lens) survived without a hickup. No signs of moisture, nothing.

Went to see the original article and the guy wants $32+ a year to subscribe? Wow. People pay him for information and he can't even get his facts right about the seals in WR lenses?
