I'm kinda waiting for b&h to re-stock 18-135

Australian customs charges duty + tax for import over $1000 so k-30 with 18-135 isn't an option (GST is 10% alone)

I didn't think 18-135 had SDM?

it's a variant with a ring motor

QuoteQuote:
This lens covers a wide zoom range and features Pentax's latest lens technology, including the Quick-Shift focus system, SP (Super Protect) coating, and a DC motor for the SDM focusing system. When this lens auto-focuses, the external focusing ring does not move, allowing for comfortable holding and fine manual adjustment on the fly as well as for excellent AF speed. The lens also features an aspherical element, internal focusing, and extra-low dispersion element, and weather sealing to compliment the weather sealing of the K-5. The aperture blades are rounded to help render a very smooth bokeh. Finally, the lens hood also features a filter window for easy use of CPL filters.

Note: this lens uses the KAF3 mount. Autofocus will only work on SDM-enabled bodies: the Pentax K-5, K-r, K-7, K-x, K-m, K20D, K200D, K100D Super and K10D (w/ 1.30 firmware or higher).
the 18-55wr is still KAF2 gear driven

BH photo has a good price posted right now (459) in Canada it runs 599

Prodigital2000 has them for 540.34 (free shipping in canada us not sure on Australia)
Adorama is 529.95

Seems like you have a couple of hundred difference to buy there including the tax.
for me there is no tax avoidance, they collect it via the courier or post office, no exemptions (13% is our rate)

Although not billed as a WR lens, I understand the 17-70 does have some internal sealing. Mine certainly has a seal on the base/mount and I've read a numnber of posts on various fora where users declare their satisfaction with it in adverse wet conditions.

18-135 works out at 324.82 AUD or so (depending on paypal conversion) shipping is free from the singapore site
cheaper than the 17-70 i would think,
I'm on the verge of ordering one myself (if I hadn't bought 9 other lenses and 2 cameras in the last month i would have already ordered it despite the fact i don't use zooms often )
i may still and sell my 18-55WR to offset it

OMG you bought so many in a month....

Yes. 17-70 price on the Singapore site is also cheaper than B&H, but definitely more expensive than the unboxed 18-135

almost all taks though and all at good prices, 1 isco gottingen 100mm and a jupiter 9 85 mm because it's tough to find a good deal on a tak - even these are getting pricey damn canon users- I'm rationalizing my manual focus kit to m42 and have 20-300 covered now except for 24mm
the cameras were also cheap an SF1 for 18 and an Oly MJU point shoot for 9.90 - still by the time shipping et al is in i spent a fair bit of money
only Af lens was the new DA50 which i got a good price on for cash, but it hasn't arrived yet at the shop (they were sold out by the time i got there they came in that morning)
What I've sold off covers the DA and a couple of the taks and the 2 cameras, what i have for sale would cover this and an fa77 but it has to sell first

K-5 manual (page 16) actually says "Water-Resistant".
Agreed, it is pretty sealed as demonstrated by other users/PF members...especially the sink faucet and desert sands demo.
I wouldn't dunk it in water though..

i have had several different wr cameras and they have seen their fair share of heavy rain but some of the tests people have done are just asking for it

I have the DA17-70, it's a very useful lens and the SDM is so much better than screw-drive AF. The 18-55 WR is too slow for me for the focal length range. I'd go for the focal length range/aperture you want first and worry about WR after that. Unless you'll be using it a lot in wet conditions, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Just made an order of the 18-135 WR unboxed. $200 cheaper than the 17-70 so I'll see how it goes!
