the decision is an easy one. do you use flash regularly? or do you prefer to shoot available light?

If you want to be able to shoot at low iso and still capture in darker spots (ie indoors) or be able to use fill flash on people in the outdoors then it's worth taking (a flash doesn't add much weight)

usually, I shoot with available light, which here in Norway is plentiful even in the evening (at least in summertime)
I've never been to equatorial regions before, but I've been told it gets dark very fast ...

I rarely have any packing problems or regrets. For Vegas a wide angle for the architecture and a telephoto for the shows would be required. I would also like having a telephoto for taking candids on the street. And probably the M135 since the MF would probably work better.

Standard list
DA15
K24/M28 - sometimes I leave this at home if traveling light
DA40/A50f1.7
DFA100/M135
maybe the 18-55WR zoom if it might be wet

Perhaps I should sell a bunch of lenses since I rarely use anything not on the above list. I guess I enjoy having a takumar day every now and then.

Travel is my favourite opportunity to take photos. I pack the K20D & K-x, DA 10-17 FE, 18-135mm, DA 15, FA 35, DA 40, D FA 100 and A*300mm in my Think Tank Streetwalker. I carry a messenger bag for day trips with the K20D, DA 18-135 and a couple of primes.

No insecurity on my part as I want to utilize everything that I've purchased and not to let anything go to waste. I've even thought about forcing myself to do 30-day stints with each lens(way too much now that I think about it).

Have you joined any Single In challenges? It sounds like you'd be an ideal candidate.

So, that's what it is? Think I'll do it.

I'm sure they wouldn't mind you joining August a couple of days late. They're a friendly group. What lens will you choose?

When I went to Vegas I only took a FA31. I really enjoyed it.

Next time I go, I'll probably take the 18-135 and Sigma 8-16.

I travel a lot (England, Ireland, Thailand, Philippines and Australia - not counting mainland China as I'm there often - in the past 12 months, and this was a slow year).

I think enjoying photography is a benefit when traveling (or frankly all the time!) as you are more inclined to observe more deeply, and seek different views. At the same time, I want to "be there" and not be a 3rd party observer behind a viewfinder.

Used to.

Also, had a phase where I'd drag every lens I had along with me -- unfortunately, that phase came after having acquired 10's of lenses. I got a LowePro trolly/backpack to hold the lot.

Today, for most everyday, I have the Q and the 01/02 in my briefcase. That also goes when traveling for work, or for when casually dragging visitors to local sights I've seen & photographed before, etc.

For when heading off on *general* vacation/weekends, the kit consists of 16-50/2.8 + 50-135/2.8 + a flash w/ softbox (for fill-in) and pol-filters. Most often, I will add the 200/2.8 and the 10-17/3.5-4.5 to the setup, as this whole lot fits into some LowePro beltpack that I've had for decades, and as it's a fairly versatile kit.

Remaining lenses I've come to think of as "specialized", and drag along when I will need them. This includes the limited lenses - and other primes.
