DA 50mm 1.8 for $249 -- crazy prices

I see the DA 50mm 1.8 has finally made it to the market--I've been checking often--and I am quite disappointed with the pricing compared to a similar lens Nikon offers for it's DSLR cameras.

I think $199 would be more fair -- I mean it has a plastic mount for goodness sake. For $199 you get quick shift focus and metal mount on the Nikon lens. I don't even know if this lens has quick shift.

i think it is a great price and if pentax started selling more camera/equipment like nikon and canon they could lower their prices...not enough demand...so let's all go out and buy pentax and get their prices down

Why fret about it? I think the list price for the DA 35 f2.4 is 250 as well, but it routinely sells for 180 dollars an Amazon and Adorama. The 50 will probably have an end price in the same range and will be a very reasonable lens for that price.

Don't worry they will discontinue it in a few years and lift the price even higher

Uh, dude, it just came out. Everything is super expensive when it first hits the shelves. I expect it to sink a little and then you can wait for special rebates and whatnot. Basically, you have to pay extra if you want it now.

If it settles to DA 35 prices, that'd be great.

It'd be even better if it settled below

Then i have an excuse to get it even though I have Sigma 50 F1.4.

Patience. Maximum Assured Pricing is not working out very well for Pentax USA. Prices are fluctuating on established lenses again, after promises that they would not and exhortations by the Choir that this was good for us. The 50/1.8 is about a week old - let it be out for 2-4 months and I believe you'll see prices start to come in line with the 35/2.4.

Even if it will come down in price, it's still a joke. :-) It's not worth it, it's stupid, just as stupid as the DA 14 getting beaten big time by a cheap prime from some unknown brand, lol...

Have you seen enough reviews and samples of this lens yet? I wouldn't speak ahead of myself.

No Quick Shift.

Read several reviews, no quick shift focus. The look, feel and features of the lens is EXACTLY like the 35 2.4.

The Nikon frequently sold for >$225 when it was first introduced. Now that it's been out a while, prices are settling down.

Samyang is hardly an unknown brand. They've been producing great cheap manual focus primes for some time now.

As much of a joke and as stupid as this post? That would really be something, lol...
