Tamron 28-75 f2.8 arrived

I forgot i had a "No Call" on the order.

Went up to Henrys Newmarket yesterday, to get ink for the epson 2400, and i checked to see if the lens was in. Thats when it was pointed out i had a do not call on the order. Forgot that.

Wife is working this afternoon, so i have to wait till then before i pull it out of the bag and try it.
She knew i was getting ink, so the bag did not alarm her.

It's a great lens. Congrats, I usually prefer primes, but this lens has a tendency to "stick" on the camera.

I am considering this lens as my next lens (I got the 18-55 Kit lens) for my K10D...but I am also considering the Tamron 18-250 lens as well. Are the optics or the fact that its a faster lens be a reason to choose this lens over the 18-250?

All these choices are making my head swim.

Thanx..Sprags

It all depends on what you will be taking pictures of. The Tammy 18-250 is a great all around lens if you need some distance and close up.

Never tried the 18-250mm, but for MY uses, it would be too slow. Having f/2.8 throughout really helps with indoor event work. Even with flash, if you have a high ceiling you need all the flash power you can get, so f/2.8 and ISO800 allows me to illuminate quite a big space with my 540.

Also, the 28-75mm focuses quite close, so at 75mm you can get up to 1:3 magnification.

I think for a general purpose outside lens, the 18-250mm would be decent. If you NEED the f/2.8 of the Tamron, you'll know it!

This will be primarily used fro indoor shows, bar bands etc. My only other AF low lighter is the 77 ltd.

My attempts at using MF fast glass and low light led to poor photos so i decided the AF would be best.

It will be used for other things like outdoor equine photos etc, but i needed to get some more Pentax low light glass.

I love this lens...I went on Hike yesterday and it was dark and gloomy, but you can't tell by the pictures using this very nice lens...Works very well in low or bad light.

How does this lens compare to the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG? (The Sigma is $20 cheaper.)

Was about to order the Sigma, but may get the Tamron instead. (Sigma is currently backordered at B&H.)
I am wanting to replace the kit lens. I know this is not as wide, but will work for my needs.

Those are some nice sharp photos btw.

Returning lens

Finally had a chance to test the lens on Monday. From F5.6 up its fine, sharp, good colour.F rom F4 to F2.8 its garbage.

Front focuses, bad colour and contrast, soft.

I'm under the 13 day return period so i should be ok.

Dam.
