Think 60-250...
First there are 11 things on the roadmap to come. At least 7 of those have delivery dates in the first half of the year. While agree that the delays in producing the long opticals in the past have been incredible, I have also assumed that Hoya wanted some return on their investment which means that they have to be more timely, or they won't..........
As for the 60-250----that is a very complex lens. the fact t hat it can be made at all is what is interesting. It's not that long zoom ranges are impossible---they have been around for quite a while, but fast and constant aperature AND high optical quality seem to be quite a package, and if they can make a price point that the customers like it will be even more amazing. I haven't paid a lot of attention to it because I have assumed that I would be continuing to wish for it for a long time after it was on the store shelves due to its cost.
As for the converter they already have one but they need to connect through the electrical contacts for the SDM drive, and hopefully add enoughh electronics so the camera body knows when a converter is attached and can take this into accont for varioius camera functions, particularly the Shake reduction, and metadata recordings.
What would add to the complexity is the possibility that opitical engineering would determine that a variable optical unit such as the 1.7x adapter would 'do better' than a classic fixed unit.
With SDM it would be practical for the electronics to manage and coordinate 2 moving parts but it would take more work to invent it.
