People are confusing my FF lenses with cropped form factor.

85mm on a FF is not the same as a 85mm on a cropped camera.
It is more like 135mm on the cropped camera, not what I want.

I will be using a 50mm/1.4 for my portrait lens. The same way I used a 50mm on my Minolta and Canon Cropped cameras. The same way I used a 85mm on my Minolta and Canon FF cameras.

This is just the way I use my 50 1.4, but I also us a Super Takumar 35 3.5 for the "normal 50mm" perspective...

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Pentax!

From my experience, I think you'll like the DA* 50-135mm. A lot! Welcome to the forums, and to Pentax!

"The official pentax 'roadmap shows a aconverter' to be likely released this year"

How on earth did you come up with this? That TC is so far into the bottom right side of the roadmap you almost need a roadmap to find it. There are many other items on the roadmap that (apparently) are being worked on before attention is turned to a TC.

Sorry, but I don't think this particular, long-lusted-after product appears to have much of a chance of being released this year. Maybe Pentax will come up with some features and a mock-up this year, and maybe, IF we are lucky, a TC will be available for sale before the end of 2009.

Think 60-250...

I am sure there is not a lot of R&D time in on a teleconverter.
It just has to now pass through the electronics.

Anyway...
I have used the Minolta 80-200mm/2.8 G and the Canon 70-200mm/2.8 L IS
Also all of the third party variants
I will have some good comments on the pentax when I get it.
The one problem of the FF lenses is the weight.

I have also used all variants of the 28-70mm/2.8 lenses
So I am excited to try this pentax 16-50mm - the weight is nice on it.

I have not heard many comments on the AF speed of the pentax lenses with built in focus motors...

I never really used a 50mm on a full frame camera much.

Usually always a bit longer if I could.

But I have the 40mm pancake and 21mm so I will be close enough without having to get a 35mm lens.

Think 60-250...
First there are 11 things on the roadmap to come. At least 7 of those have delivery dates in the first half of the year. While agree that the delays in producing the long opticals in the past have been incredible, I have also assumed that Hoya wanted some return on their investment which means that they have to be more timely, or they won't..........

As for the 60-250----that is a very complex lens. the fact t hat it can be made at all is what is interesting. It's not that long zoom ranges are impossible---they have been around for quite a while, but fast and constant aperature AND high optical quality seem to be quite a package, and if they can make a price point that the customers like it will be even more amazing. I haven't paid a lot of attention to it because I have assumed that I would be continuing to wish for it for a long time after it was on the store shelves due to its cost.

As for the converter they already have one but they need to connect through the electrical contacts for the SDM drive, and hopefully add enoughh electronics so the camera body knows when a converter is attached and can take this into accont for varioius camera functions, particularly the Shake reduction, and metadata recordings.

What would add to the complexity is the possibility that opitical engineering would determine that a variable optical unit such as the 1.7x adapter would 'do better' than a classic fixed unit.
With SDM it would be practical for the electronics to manage and coordinate 2 moving parts but it would take more work to invent it.

My camera came today...

The 16-50mm/2.8 lens does not focus.
I called pentax, they told me it should... duh...

Said to try to take/send it back
Or send it to pentax, pay shipping and wait at least 3 weeks for repairs.

Repair something that was never used....

This is not what I expected..

I asked if it was the camera or the lens, he said probably the lens but who knows....

You'll have to upgrade the body firmware to version 1.3 before SDM will function!

And if you have not yet bought your Macro, I'd like to recommend Sigma 70mm EX, I have some some samples here

I have the Metz AF 58, and it works perfectly on K10D!

I called Calumet Photo tonight
They are sending me another lens out.
Probably get it tomorrow or the next day.
Then I send this one back.

I really hope it is a bad lens....

Calumet did not perform as promised.
They were supposed to ship me a replacement when my bad lens arrived.
Instead they gave me a refund and did not tell me.
I had to reorder the lens, and I added the 50-135mm at the same time.
Love both the lenses...

I was using a 85mm on a FF camera.
85mm on a cropped pentax is not another 85mm lens.
50mm/1.4 is close.
But fa 50/1.4 will not give you the look of Canon 85/1.2 or 85/1.8 on FF. A 50/1.2 is probably closest image quality similar to 85/1.2L on FF

Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 produces softer and more creamy bokeh similar to Canon 85/1.2L (but canon has less colour in the bokeh department)
