UV -vs- Skylight

Which would be the preferred filter for a lens for everyday use?

I do realize that many say no filter at all is needed with a DSLR.

But, if someone, me, insisted on using one, which would be best?

Ed

I have UV filters in all my lenses..I just leave them there...good protection for the front lens element......

Skylight is too weak to really block out UV light. On DSLR, this really is just an extra piece of glass to compromise your lens capability in producing fine images.

UV 2+ or above is more worth while. It might darken the image by 2/3 of stop but it does enhance the colour better.

I whack UV filters on all my precious lenses just for the sake of protection. Food scaps, coke, juice, saliva or dirt can only stain the UV filter but not my precious lens front elements!

I personally believe that only UV 3+ makes a difference to the image colour and neutral density/polariser would probably make a better use for colour enhancement.

Skylight won't do much on DSLR as the AWB will just correct it out..

Either UV or Hoya Protective filters would be the most sensible choice...
