Superzoom for Pentax

I use old Tamron 18-200 cos there is no new small size and lightweight superzoom available for pentax. Very irritating situation cos i really use my old Tamron much cos no need to change lens all the time but new lenses have better IQ. Other brands have their own lenses and then Tamron 18-270 available. Pentax only have Tamron and Sigma 18-200, both lenses have not very good IQ. Longer Sigmas are too heavy for my use. DA 18-135 is too short for me...why i can not buy tammy 18-270, tell me somebody

The DA18-250mm is the super-zoom you want IMHO. It is sold as DA18-250mm or Tamron 18-250mm (K-mount). The DA18-250mm was manufactured by Tamron and rebadged. Both are identical, and they are considered among the best all-around zoom lenses across all brands.

The DA18-250mm/Tamron18-250mm is no longer manufactured. But you can find it regularly on the market place: at PF Marketplace, at keh.com, at Adorama... for US$350-450.

While the DA18-250mm is not WR, it is a very sturdy lens wih a very solid track record among Pentaxians.

An alternative is the Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM, but it is heavier and more expensive, and no better IQ.

Hope that the comment will help.

For what it's worth, there is an ~18-2XX on the lens roadmap slated for release this year. Maybe we'll see it at Photokina.

Hopefully it's WR, making it the only one of its kind from any manufacturer. As for IQ, I wouldn't get my hopes up for any superzoom.

I have a Tamron 18-200 and IQ wise it isn't that bad at all as a walkabout lens. Just don't always shoot wide-open with it and it's fine..

Shoot RAW, and buy DxO Optics Pro (which has a lens module for the Tamron 18-200 on Pentax) and the 18-200 becomes even better.
