New Quantaray 70-300 lenses

These lenses look pretty nice. And a really nice pricing point.

Quantaray 70-300 mm DI f/4-5.6 Digital Series AF Zoom Lens for Pentax - 251666111 - RitzCamera.com

Any idea how good they may actually be? I've messed with Quantaray lenses in store and they're hit or miss from what I've seen. This one looks like it could be hit.

I'd recommend the Tamron version

Can be had for $200 (sometimes less), and it's generally sharp out to 300mm...

Cheers,
Marc

Is it just me, or does that Quantaray look like a rebadged tamron?

Quantaray just rebadge Sigma and Tamron and whatever else they get... I assume they are the same quality as the original lenses but who knows for sure?

The one you pointed out looks to be the Tamron DI 70-300

Q on the Quantaray 70-300mm DI

I am about to purchase a 70-300mm lens for my K100D. Can you please tell me a couple of things about the Quantaray?
a) Does it come with a lens hood?
b) What is the length of the warranty on it?

I am trying to decide between the Quantaray ($140 after $10 google checkout discount) and the Tamron ($162 on eBay - comes with a lens hood and a six-year warranty).

Thanks for your help.

Hi Teja

Yes, the lens comes with a 5 year warranty.

The Lens Hood is a plastic hood, that is full circular... no contour cutts like with my Tamron or Pentax lens.

I myself would probably go with the Tamron as its only $20 or so more.. but I am satisfied with the Quantaray on its own.

Thanks, Kitanis - for both your replies

I called Ritz after my post and the customer service lady said that the Quantaray comes with only year warranty and doesn't include a lens hood. Hmm... I guess she doesn't know what she was talking about. Anyway, I will most probably take your advice and go with the Tamron.

Cheers.
