OK.. I think I get it.. so I guess the other question would be : are the old 6x7 lenses up to par with the tair 3 as far as resolution? I only mention it here, because of paulusje's comment above..

Thanks!

It is intuitive to think that yes, if we are using the sweet spot of the lens then it should look good, but we must remember we are also magnifying it more with our smaller sensor and therefore also magnifying flaws. So it depends how magnified it is. Medium format lenses used on their native format can actually be made to be lower-resolving than their counterparts for smaller formats to achieve the same overall "quality". But then there is the sweet spot. Bottom-line is that "it depends" on the lens, on the format you use it on, etc. But it is a mistake to think "medium format is bigger, originally more expensive" etc so they are naturally higher-quality and will look great on my small sensor. Maybe so, but maybe not so...

These lens, while both 300/4.5, have different optical design (Tair-3 has 3 elements in 3 groups while Tair-33 has 4 elements in 3 groups), and according to factory specifications, Tair-3 has resolution of 45/38 lpm, while Tair-33 has only 25/18 lpm.

Of course, factory specifications are just factory specifications, and in fact a good copy of Tair-33 can be better than a bad copy of Tair-3.
