Macro lens(Tamron 90mm+Pentax 100mm)+TC?

Planning to buy Tamron 90mm or Pentax 100mm Wr macrolens. But cos i am going to carry lens much lens also for short tele lens use so I am wondering if these lenses also do work as little longer lens with teleconverter. If u are using these lenses with TC, pls recomend to me what TC is good with one or both with these lenses.

I have the 100wr and I love it. I have used it with macro extension tubes, but not a teleconverter. Given my lenses, if I need something longer I am reaching for the 50-135 or the 60-250. I would suggest buying the lens first and trying it with non macro uses before investing in a teleconverter, because you may find that you don't need it.

As far as deciding between the teo lens choices, mine came down to wr. I have to be able to shoot in the elements sometimes so the.100wr was worth it to me.

+1 on the D FA 100mm WR, truly an excellent lens. Excellent macro, of course, but also really good short/medium telephoto.

I have no experience with putting a TC on it though. I have longer lenses for that. No reason why it would not work, you will lose some image quality and 2 stops of light. Since it is a screw drive lens any TC with 'A' contacts and AF drive will work. You generally get what you pay for and there are cheap TCs out there but the better 2x ones will be marked '7 element' instead of '4 element'. They are marked with various brands but it seems they are all made in the same factory and re-badged.

If image quality is most important, pass on the TC and get a longer lens. If weight and convenience are more important, then yes it will work, just make sure you get a TC with contacts and a screw drive.

If you want to shoot action with the lens you probably want a lens with focus limiter. Macro lenses has very slow AF as the focus throw need to be long, so without a limiter it can take 1-2 sec for the lens to hunt for focus.

Don't know if Tamron90 or Pentax100wr has a limiter, but I know that some older versions of Pentax 100mm has limiter.

D FA 100mm WR does not. And the time to cycle through the focus range is a valid point. Not the lens to use for birding or sports.

The Tamron lens does have a focus limiter.

The D FA has quick shift, which is better than a limiter IMO.

With a TC, you'll be at 180 or 200mm and f5.6. Instead of the TC, I'd get an SMC Pentax-F 70-210mm f4-5.6. It'll be cheaper than a good TC, probably better, and you'll have more focal lengths available.
