P/K lens mount

I have a 75-205 3.8/22 with Close Focus from Vivitar.

I don't normally have a problem with any lens, but just trying to shoot the moon a few nights ago I noticed I cant get infinite focus. That's not really the problem I want to solve.

I have to use a 2x convertor (Vivitar MC Tele Convertor 2X-22) to mount the lens to my K-r because the mount is listed as a P/K.

It has this odd ring inside the mount that prevents it from going fully in to the camera mount.

Anyone seen this and know how I can either:

Take it apart and remove this ring/edge.

--or--

Use another adapter to achieve infinite focus.

Just remove the ring. Common problem with some of these film era lenses on the pentax D SLRs - it shouldn't have any issues with older pentax K mount film cameras. This one doesn't look as easy to get off there as the other ones though, may have to take a dremel to it (after removing the metal mount from the lens...)

Are ther any screws holding the aperture shield in place? Most lenses with the "Vivitar" shield have 3 or 4 JIS screws holding it on.

Otherwise use a Dremel to cut it off...

Just keep in mind that they are probably JIS screws and not Phillips. A Phillips head screw driver may strip them.

I used my fine PH00's. Worked fine.

Thanks, I'll have to try a moonshot tonight.

You could always modify the shield/flange as per this thread. I've done this previously and it worked a treat.

They did an excellent job.

Looks like it came like that (Aside from the marker. I don't have access to anodize it.)

You still left quite a lot of that flange there. I cut mine to almost half that size.
But whatever works - as long as you can now mount it to your camera without the requirement of a teleconverter and can focus to infinity, then it's a job well done!
