should i buy pentax 17-70mm or the sigma lens

i already have a fa 24-90mm, and when i use it with my k5, it kind of over exposure. still it's not sharp at long range, and it's not wide enough.
i want replace it, and there are 2 lens in my mind, one is pentax DA 17-70, the other one is sigma 17-70. but i am not sure when one i should choose.

plz help

Look at the constant 2.8 lenses like the 18-50s instead. I have the 17-70 sigma and should have bought the 18-50 2.8 (now 17-50 2.8) instead. The difference between 50 and 70 wasn't as big a deal as I imagined, but the difference in aperture IS a big deal.

Both sides of the story

I have the Pentax DA 17-70. It primarily lives on a K20D (my wifes) and is a very useful lens which I find myself using more and more. When used on the K5 with its greater iso qualities it becomes a very good lens.
I too, have agonised over buying a faster (f2.8) lens in this range (eg DA*16-50), but the more I analyse my use the more I come back to the DA 17-70.

Good luck, happy hunting and God Bless LBA.

Cheers
Grant

Thanks Grant, how is the sharpness of the pentax 17-70 at long range. The sigma have a very nice sharpness but the color is dry.

well that proved to be a little harder than I thought it would be.....appears we use the lens mostly on the mid to wide end....but have found a couple of examples at 50-70mm for you. No pp here....straight off the camera, RAW and converted. Hope that is some use to you.
Cheers
Grant

Sigma 17-70 is ok lens (nothing special but u can always trust it really), only thing i not like is lens OS is always eating battery fast even OS is off. So battery need to charge about 2-4 times faster than with my other lenses.

If budget is a factor, the K mount Sigma 17-70 is very cheap. It's not a bad lens, I don't mind mine (the old 2.8-4.5 version) but I've become addicted to primes and just can't bring myself to use zooms much.
