FA-43 Ltd. - no engraved serial number...

I recently purchased an FA-43 (AIV) lens. Lens is from one of the two reputable dealers that many of us buy from in NYC. Funny things....the lens has no serial number anywhere...at least as far as I can tell. Also, the model designation is not engraved on anywhere. The distance scale is there. The lens came with all the correct paperwork, including the warranty card with the serial number printed on it. My two other FA Limiteds (same store) do have serial numbers and model designations engraved. Is this just a Pentax quirk or what? Thanks!

My serial number is on the front of the lens, where the name, focal length and F-stop are written.

This is how Pentax did it in the old days, my 50mm f1.7 has it on the front.

Yes, it is ALWAYS in the last place you look. Once you have found it, you stop looking!

My insurance company wants all serial numbers, but my 18-55 kit lens has never had a number, not even on the paperwork or box.

That sounds a bit odd. I have two of them and the serial number is on the underside of the ring where it says "Pentax 18-55mm". I suggest you take another look.
