where to buy pentax lenss in Germany?

Dear fellow Pentax friends in Germany,

I've moved overseas from Germany some years ago but will be back for a visit soon. While there I'd like to look at some lenses and possibly buy some. I often buy online but for some items it's nice to have had a look before buying. Many retailers here don't stock Pentax gear. Are there any retailers, photo shops, multi media markets in Germany that carry Pentax gear more than others? Where do you buy your lenses? I'd love to hear from you and hopefully carry one or the other lens back home with me.
Thanks in advance!

Find someone with access to an american military base.

They can get literally any Pentax item there, far below the price for what anyone in america would ever pay. One can usually find base purchase items either at the PX/BX or the base A/V club.

It is not easy to find a real retailer with Pentax currently. Depends very much where you are in Germany. In the Rhine-Main area the Bessier/Foto Oehling group (Mainz, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt shops) carry a solid choice of Pentax gear. Stuttgart, Munich and also Dusseldorf have a variety of real photo shops and you may find Pentax there. The big discount dealers (Saturn, Media Markt etc.) have sometimes Pentax, but only ocassionally and no thrid party lenses in PAF mount, usually (anyway, they are usually more expensive than most good local dealers).

To be honest, I buy most gear from the UK (SRS Microsystems or WEX) by mailorder. Good online dealers in Germany for Pentax gear are TeKaDe, Foto Palme, Foto Ehrhardt or Foto Köster.

Thanks Ben, this is really helpful. I'll give those places a try. I can claim MwST back when leaving Europe again, which would make a possible good deal a real bargain!

Thanks Medium FormatPro. That is intersting, I had no idea.

There are only a few US barracks left in Germany. Wiesbaden, Ramstein airbase and ofcourse Heidelberg come to my mind. The rest is more or less a thing of the past. And finding someone having access might be quite difficult, if you are only on a short trip. Details: List of United States Army installations in Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Used, via ebay, naturally. Got some great deals and if they allow one to make a best offer, try it. I got my FA35 for 360 or something like that (still high) on a listing for 599.

Got an M85 for 94 euros.

Then there's also the German Pentax forum. It's a mixed bag if you're a non-speaker of German or speak it as a second language. The flipside is that people are quite cool, when it means putting money in their pocket.

There's also Foka Webwinkel, De specialist in foto, beeld en geluid. in Rotterdam. They speak English.

Thanks snake
I am a native speaker in german and posted on the german pentax forum exactly the same question (in german) a couple weeks ago with no replies at all. Hence the rather broad approach here...

I guess I'm more interested in a new over a used lense and haven't quite made up my mind as yet about what exactly I want (looking at wide / ultrawide) so would love to 'look with my fingers'. As the aussie dollar is super strong compared to the euro and I can get the MwST back when I leave Europe (that of course doesn't work on ebay....) there might be a good deal in store for me. But I'm not too fussed, just always looking out for new toys :-)

What region in DE are you in?

I wish I remembered how I found it, which is, I think, through the authorized dealer list, but I think at least one outlet (not cyberport) in Dresden is quite well priced.

One shop in Aachen is quite good, and where I got my K5 from, in fact. They're the shop that sponsors the De forum.

Additionally, you could also use what I did to get my K5 for 669 Euros:

Fotografie Preisvergleich | Preise bei idealo.de

Often you'll see Meinpaket with some great prices through local dealers. That is one of the best ways to do it.

Thanks all for your tips! I'll be in the south (mainly around Stuttgart). I'll just go browsing and will see what comes my way... Will make sure that I'll make good use of my equipment even if I won't buy anything while travelling. :-)

Where to buy Pentax lenses in Berlin? I'm interested in real photo equipment store, not online. Help, please.

Don't know about Germany, strictly speaking, but Media Markt in my region (south of Switzerland) is my go-to place to find at least some Pentax equipment (or made-for, such as Tamron & Sigma). No other retailer carries that (or they do, but at premium price). On their end, you can actually test stuff before buying. Also, I got my brand new Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 at bargain price because it was their last piece in stock for a while.
Again, I don't know if the situation is similar in Germany, but Media Markt being a chain, I suppose it would not differ greatly. If so, I'd give it a try!

There's a Pentax enthusiast working as a salesperson at the Saturn, Tauentzienstrasse 9 (Europa Center), who posts as the user "zackspeed" in the German Pentax forum. I've never been there myself because I don't live close to Berlin, but they're said to have lots of cameras and lenses in stock, and it would certainly be the #1 place I'd go to if I were in Berlin.

I have been to Germany for two years. There was few Pentax lens sellers. What a pity!

Again, I posted the list of dealers. The OP has less of a chance of shooting in the dark by going there. For the most part, it's nearly impossible to find stocking dealers, including authorized dealers, for lenses. Bodies, yes, maybe a DA40 and a host of kit lenses, but little more. It depends on where the OP will be and they have to check the shops. I was recently in Frankfurt at an authorized dealer, and they nearly laughed at me and went back to what they were doing when I asked if they had any Pentax lenses.
