Glad I could help you!

Thanks for the hint.

The time needed for yellowing to disapear depends on the severity of the tint and the power (flux) of the UV source. I would be interested in what result will you obtain.

Will the yellow come back?

I am also in the process of doing this for a Takumar I have. The question I have is, will the yellow start coming back right away? If I leave it in the window for two weeks, take some photos and then it goes back in the bag for a few months, how rapidly does the yellowing come back?
Truth is - we don't really know how long it will (might?) take. I cured my 50/1.4 lenses about 4 years ago and they are still "water clear".

Anyway, if it does come back, who cares? Just give them the sun treatment again. It costs nothing.

Yes, keep the lens cool

A word of caution to the home remedies though. Make sure you keep the lens as cool as possible. The lubricant from the focus ring will warm up and get on the aperture blades. When that happens, you will have a sluggish aperture and then looking at a $60+ pro cleaning.
That is precisely why the silver foil is used - to reflect as much heat as possible away from the black part of the lens which would actually absorb heat.

Thanks very much for the detailed replies, I really appreciate it. I should have my M42 adapter within the week, hopefully, so I'll be able to take some test shots so I can have 'before & after' examples in addition to eyeballing it after UV/Sunlight cleaning.

My wife will think I've finally cracked when she sees me dressing up a lens in tinfoil and putting it on a windowsill like a plant. I'll just tell her it's a symptom of LBA, and she should feel lucky that I'm not talking to it.

Thanks again all, I'll let you know how it goes.
